Step back in time in 'Maison des Roses' Farmhouse (1604) which is situated on the picturesque Charente/Limousin border. The property has been lovingly restored exposing all the original features in this beautiful property, and as the French locals often tell us 'It is truly magnifique'.
The Farmhouse is full of character and spacious, airy and has a magnificent sweeping oak staircase leading up to the large master suite with king size bed and en suite bathroom, twin bedroom and second bathroom.
Downstairs you will find the third double bedroom with its pretty picturesque window looking onto the garden. Leading off from the hallway with its stone flagged floor into the quaint fully equipped kitchen, from there you come into the large lounge/dining area with its granite stone fireplace with log burning stove and bringing it right up to date with wi-fi! The thick stone walls maintain a natural coolness in the summer months where you may wish to escape from the heat of the sun.
Enjoy your time dining al fresco in the peaceful garden with patio area, bbq and patio furniture or sip on that local wine and watch the wildlife that use the garden. Keep a look out for the deer that come to feed in the field along side the garden of the farmhouse.
The owner has developed an extensive information file which provides information on the farmhouse along with details of all local amenities and activities available in the area to ensure you are able to make the most of your holiday. Please note that our changeover day is any day, not just Saturday. Property is cleaned for your arrival, please leave it in the same condition on your departure or I can arranged to have it cleaned at a cost of £50.
There is a £200 refundable security deposit that is required when balance of holiday is paid. This will be refunded once the property has been checked and within 2 weeks of your departure.
Eddie and I saw this property on the internet and fell in love with it (rose tinted glasses), it was completely derelict and the house part had not been lived in for over 100 years. The property is dated at 1602 and had all the original features which we have sympathetically restored to how it used to be. The doors had not been opened for many years, so the french were intrigued and would shout 'Bon Courage' (good luck). After renovation they now say 'Fantastique', which makes us feel proud.

|Why this location?||The countryside reminded us of the Dales, the swimming Lakes reminded us of The Lakes, and the peace and quiet reminded us of England 30 years ago. The villagers are very friendly.|

There are plenty of brochures in the house. Lakes for Swimming or Fishing Brigueuil professional fishing lake run by English friends. Videx and Guerlie Lakes approximately 25 mins away and has the above facilities with the addition of boat hire, pedalos, horse riding, bike hire and children's climbing frame. There is an English owned cafe/bar (Le Soleil Couchant) next to the horse riding with free wi-fi, children's toys, baby changing facilities. St. Junien Swimming Pool - Indoor and Outdoor There is a refurbished complex 5 minutes drive from the gite with outdoor pool, slide, childrens play area, sunloungers and for the cooler days there is an indoor pool. There are marked cycles and walking routes from the village. I can arrange bike hire in advance. Montrol Senard - a village that has kept many of its buildings in musuem state for tourists to see how the French used to live, very pretty little place and there is no charge. St. Junien is a pretty town for sightseeing and Limoges city is only 25 mins drive. Kayaking/Canoeing nearby Velorail
A typically French holiday house converted from an old property 10+ years ago; not modern but charming with plenty of space. All perfectly comfortable with everything working. We were at the house for 10 days (Family of 2 adults / 2 late teenagers) and were very happy. We had good weather most of the time which always helps and found plenty to do locally / within 45 mins drive.
Good points: All bedrooms comfortable. Kitchen well equipped. Lots of hot water. Good built-in BBQ. Only 2 mins walk from village tabac, bakery, post office. Garden is sunny from mid-day onwards. Wi-Fi good. English TV. Lynn (the owner) was there to greet us and was very friendly.
Less good points, although none spoilt our holiday: Main bedroom close to the road and can hear passing infrequent traffic in the morning. All of the garden / seating area can be seen by passers-by but these are few and far between. 2nd bathroom shower cubicle is tiny so we didn’t use this. Parking is outside the house half on / half off the road.
All in all Rose House was a very good find for our holiday, we had a great time.
Stayed last summer in this lovely farmhouse. The pretty garden is just big enough with shade if needed and you are not overlooked. The property has been lovingly restored keeping original features and you could feel the history in the place. Lynn the owner had left plenty of information of activities around the area to which there are loads to do. Beautiful scenery and it is a peaceful and tranquil area to stay. Nice town close by with a lovely saturday market. There are restaurants within 5 minute drive of the site. All in all it was like home from home and we would love to go back.
The gite was very characterful as well as spacious and full of French charm. The location was excellent with basic local amenities only 2 minutes walk away and town only 15 minutes drive.
With having a dog, the gite fulfilled all of our needs in regards to the enclosed garden and walks on the doorstep.
The gite is definitely suitable for larger parties of 6 as, as a couple, there were parts of the house we simply didn't use. Having two toilets and showers though is definitely a plus for a bigger party.
The only negative about the gite is that the sun doesn't grace the garden until midday, however this didn't really cause a problem as we just chose to go out in the mornings and laze in the garden during the afternoon.
We would both fully recommend this gite to anyone wanting to visit this part of France. The gite is lovely and we had the pleasure of meeting the owner too, Lynn, who is as equally lovely and very helpful and friendly. We both hope to return with family on our next visit to this part of France.

The holiday was very relaxing and the property is beautiful, full of character and history. It was like home from home as there was everything you would need if you were living there and very clean. The garden is very pretty and private, ideal for eating al fresco. Lots of information inside the property from the owner with tips on where to visit and attractions. Loved it and would recommend it. The village has everything except a bank and is quiet and relaxed and the locals are very friendly.
