A Luxury Farmhouse in 2 Acres with a Large Pool. This villa is in a rural setting.

Le Tilleul is a typical Charentaise farmhouse near Chalais and Aubeterre sur Dronne, comfortably modernised and furnished to a high standard. The large 12 x 6m pool has Roman steps and a deep end. The Smart 40” HD tv has both satellite and internet channels including free Netflix and YouTube. The farmhouse kitchen is sympathetically updated with modern fitted units, a dining table, range cooker, dishwasher, storage and a logburner. Beyond the kitchen the utility room houses the washing machine, microwave and 2 fridge-freezers.

The ground floor bedroom opens to the garden and contains a 5 foot double bed and matching oak furniture, with a private shower room, loo and basin. The three upstairs bedrooms each sleep 2 in a combination of double and kingsize or twin options. All bedrooms have en suite facilities and there are 3 wcs.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mr John Snook

We live in the south east of England and until recently ran our own holiday cottage company. This has given us an in-depth understanding of the property rental business and what makes an enjoyable self catering experience. We have now bought our own beautiful farmhouse in south west France, as a holiday home, and would like others to enjoy its unique, relaxing setting and spacious character accommodation.

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful house. Our one-year-old daughter absolutely loved running around the huge garden and splashing about in the enormous pool (a welcome change from our small, London flat). The house is set in charming countryside, and there are several walking routes that take you through fields (full of sunflowers in summer) and woods, which really enabled us to make the most of the superb location. Chalais and Aubeterre, which both have plenty of shops, cafes, and restaurants, are both a short drive away. Chalais also has a railway station from where you can easily get to Bordeaux or Angouleme in about an hour. The house itself was very well appointed, extremely comfortable, and has clearly been decorated with real care and attention - it feels like a home from home. We enjoyed our stay so much that we have already booked to go back this October! We would recommend it to anyone.

We found the house welcoming, clean and spacious with delightful fresh bread, wine, juice and excellent local cheeses awaiting our arrival. Despite temperatures in the thirties the house was cool. Our prettily decorated bedroom was charming with luxury linen, a very comfortable bed and wonderful view. The facilities were of a very high standard including a smart widescreen TV and efficient coffeemaker.

We loved the unusually large sparkling swimming pool and well maintained garden, where we ate most of our meals, including barbecues beneath the trees as the sun set in a blaze of vivid reds.

We look forward to future visits with extended family and will be recommending this house to relatives and friends. Next time we want to revisit Chalais market, return to Aubeterre, discover St Emillion and look forward to seeing the sunflowers in full bloom.

Very large and comfortable well-equipped house over looking large gardens with views to the hills. The house can easily accommodate a large party including a bedroom downstairs for someone with mobility issues. Stylish modern bathrooms throughout the house and an exceptionally large lounge/living area with satellite television and DVD player. It was a bonus to have wifi throughout the house including on the terrace. The kitchen was spacious and well equipped. Outside in the grounds there is a large swimming pool with new loungers and parasols and cool boxes for your drinks. The nearest town was Chalais, less than ten minutes drive away with a supermarket, petrol station, many private shops and restaurants as well as a delightful weekly market. The local people spoke English and were friendly. Will certainly want to go back there.

The property has large rooms and an open feeling with several patio doors to the veranda. However we did not feel it warranted the description of 4 en-suites.
Two en-suites were as expected but two bedrooms shared an enclosed toilet across the hallway and one of these bedrooms had a complete bathroom, minus the toilet, the other had an open wet room shower into the bedroom (this was unusable during our visit).
We acknowledge the owners have not had the property very long and I am sure they will address any problems we incurred with the shower and enclosed toilet as it is evident that they are updating and endeavouring to provide a good standard of accommodation.
The property is in a beautiful location, in large grounds and well screened, with a lovely large pool, which is not childproof screened as yet , but again I believe it may be in the near future.
Unfortunately the property and grounds did require more attention re. housekeeping and maintenance, which we have corresponded to the owners and they are addressing this immediately, hence the lowered rating.
The kitchen was well equipped and the bed linen and towels, outside loungers, etc were of good quality.
We loved Aubeterre Sur Dronne (visit the underground church) and ate in the outside restaurants/cafes in the square. We also loved Brantome (about an hours very pleasant drive).
The owners have been very helpful and receptive. We would definitely recommend Le Tilleul and visit the property again in the future.

Owner response

Dear Jenny, We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Le Tilleul, would recommend us and, we hope, come to stay again. You are quite correct in saying that we have a programme of enhancements underway. It was most unfortunate that our recent upgrading project caused unforeseen problems with housekeeping and garden maintenance.

We hope to see you at Le Tilleul again next year and thank you for your valuable feedback.
