About the Owner/Advertiser, Mr John Snook

We live in the south east of England and until recently ran our own holiday cottage company. This has given us an in-depth understanding of the property rental business and what makes an enjoyable self catering experience. We have now bought our own beautiful farmhouse in south west France, as a holiday home, and would like others to enjoy its unique, relaxing setting and spacious character accommodation.

The location of the property was superb. It was clean and well maintained. There was a lot of information about where and what to do and when which was very helpful. We would definitely recommend to a friend.

We had an excellent week's break in this charming and peaceful house. The property is well-situated, being within easy driving distance of Angoulême, Libourne, Saint-Émilion, and even Bordeaux, with the beautiful village of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne only a few minutes away. The house itself, which was spotlessly clean when we arrived, is well appointed, with a superb swimming pool area, large garden and grounds, and a well-equipped kitchen. We stayed there with our four-year-old daughter, who loved the large pool, the space to run around, trips to see the cows in the nearby fields, and expeditions down to the river. A particular advantage of Le Tilleul is that, as well as having great outside space, the house itself is also very comfortable, spacious, and pleasant to spend time in. Having stayed in several properties in recent years where the interior has been a little underwhelming, it was refreshing to stay in a house to which so much careful attention has given both inside and out. The owners were thoroughly charming: they gave us all the of information about the house and general area we could want, alongside very clear instructions about how everything worked. There were also local contacts who were on hand if we needed anything. It is clear that the owners take a great deal of pride in the property. We will certainly be returning, and will recommend the house to our friends.

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful house. Our one-year-old daughter absolutely loved running around the huge garden and splashing about in the enormous pool (a welcome change from our small, London flat). The house is set in charming countryside, and there are several walking routes that take you through fields (full of sunflowers in summer) and woods, which really enabled us to make the most of the superb location. Chalais and Aubeterre, which both have plenty of shops, cafes, and restaurants, are both a short drive away. Chalais also has a railway station from where you can easily get to Bordeaux or Angouleme in about an hour. The house itself was very well appointed, extremely comfortable, and has clearly been decorated with real care and attention - it feels like a home from home. We enjoyed our stay so much that we have already booked to go back this October! We would recommend it to anyone.

We found the house welcoming, clean and spacious with delightful fresh bread, wine, juice and excellent local cheeses awaiting our arrival. Despite temperatures in the thirties the house was cool. Our prettily decorated bedroom was charming with luxury linen, a very comfortable bed and wonderful view. The facilities were of a very high standard including a smart widescreen TV and efficient coffeemaker.

We loved the unusually large sparkling swimming pool and well maintained garden, where we ate most of our meals, including barbecues beneath the trees as the sun set in a blaze of vivid reds.

We look forward to future visits with extended family and will be recommending this house to relatives and friends. Next time we want to revisit Chalais market, return to Aubeterre, discover St Emillion and look forward to seeing the sunflowers in full bloom.
