The River Tardoire also offers good fishing, just buy a licence from the local Tabac.

About the Owner, Mr John Bradford

I'm a retired sales manager and my wife is a retired teacher. We live in a small town near Sherwood Forest. We have 3 sons and 6 grandchildren and we all love France. Since buying the property we have made it a real home from home, with every facility you need.

Year property purchased 2001
Why this location? The Charente is the second sunniest part of France, with over 2,000 hours of sunshine each year. The property is situated in a small friendly, peaceful hamlet, but is close to all the amities of the lovely town of La Rochefoucauld with its ancient chateaux, restaurants, chocolateries, shops and markets. Only 20 minutes by car is the city of Angoulème, with ancient ramparts, wonderful restaurants, a superb swimming pool and ice skating complex, museums, a multitude of fashionable shops and all the other amenities of a city. The lovely coastal towns of La Rochelle and Royan are about 2 hours by car, whilst Cognac, with its array of distilleries to visit is only an hour away. The Lacs de Charente, with sandy beaches, safe swimming for all ages, boat hire, restaurants, picnic and play areas, is just a 30 minute car ride. The Charente has beautiful undulating countryside, with forests, vineyards, sunflowers, lakes and chateaux. The area is great for walking, cycling, or golf.
Unique benefits of property Le Petit Rêve offers everything for a relaxing holiday, it has comfortable beds, light airy rooms and all mod cons. Chill out on the sunny patio, with a glass of wine, al fresco meal or barbecue. Or, if feeling more energetic, play table tennis or badminton in the garden. Take a short drive to the lake for a swim or hire a boat, or go for a walk through the forest at the rear of the property.

The Owner Recommends

La Rochefoucauld - Chateaux & Town

This beautiful Chateaux has been in the same family for over a thousand years. It's open to the public all year round and is well worth a visit. The historic town has a number of lovely restaurants (you can dine overlooking the Chateaux, or over looking the river Tardoir), wonderful chocolateries, a variety of shops and supermarkets and in the summer months a lido for swimming.

The city of Angoulême

Angoulême, with its ramparts, ancient town hall and 12th century cathedral, is a beautiful and very interesting city. Its only twenty minutes from the property by car and is this region’s capital.
It has all the city amenities you would expect to find including, TGV station (Paris two hours), theatre, museums, cinemas, bowling alley and a lovely sailing and swimming lake with beach and café. It also has a fantastic pool complex which has a watershute, several pools, including a infants pool, junior pool, diving pool and large main swimming pool. In the summer months it also has an large outdoor waterslide and a pool with wave machine and rapids feature. There is also a sunbathing area equipped with loungers. The complex has a good restaurant and poolside café.
Angoulême boasts a vast array of fashionable shops, cafes and restaurants. It also has a very interesting museum dedicated to the French Resistance, which was particularly strong and active in the area during WW2.
The area around the central Market Hall (sign posted ‘Les Halles’) has a particularly good selection of bars often with live music at night and restaurants to suit all tastes & budgets.
In January each year it holds the ‘International Comic Strip Cartoon Festival’, a music festival in May/June and in September the famous ‘Circuit des Remparts’, the only vintage racing car race to be held inside a French town.

Lac de Lavaud/La Guerlie Plage

A great day out for all the family, sunbathe on the sandy beach, swim or paddle in the lake, hire a pedalo, canoe, or sailing boat. Play crazy golf, or volley ball, or just laze about. Take a pic-nic, or have a snack or meal at the cafe or restaurant.

Cognac distillery visits

Cognac is only a one hour drive from the property and offers many attractions, from music festivals, river trips, great restaurants and of course its world famous tipple - Cognac.
There are many distilleries offering great guided tours and Cognac tasting, including; Remy Martin, Hennessy, Martell and Courvoisier.
A really great day out for the over 18's!

Futuroscope furturistic theme park

For a really great day out for all ages, Futuroscope is hard to beat.
Situated near Poitiers, just ninety minutes from Le Petit Reve, it really is different to most theme parks.
Get there early, take a pic-nic lunch with you, stay and have fun all day!

La Rochelle & the Atlantic Coast

The historic town and port of La Rochelle with its ancient towers and ramparts, beaches, Aquarium, fashionable shops, harbour side cafes and excellent seafood restaurants, is well worth exploring. Perhaps then take the Causeway Bridge over to the Ile de Re, with its lovely beaches.
A little further down the coast is Chatelaillon-Plage, where wind yachting and kite flying are popular on it long sandy beach.
Not far away is the historic town and harbour of Rochefort, with its vast 17th century rope works ‘La Corderie Royal’ and the full size replica frigate ‘L’Hermione’ to visit.
Further south at Royan you will find beautiful beaches with safe bathing, a multitude of shops, casino, cafes and great seafood restaurants.
The nearby holiday resorts of St-Palais-sur-Mer and St-Georges-de-Didonne with their lovey beaches are also well worth a visit.

10 / 10 Jodel 5 September, 2016

The property far exceeded any place we'd ever stayed before in France. It was very clean, had every possible comfort and facility, and was set in a beautiful tiny village. The neighbours were very friendly, there were some lovely country walks, and all this was within a few minutes drive of an old town which has its own chateau, restaurants and large supermarket.

In case we encountered any problems during our stay there was a contact phone number we could use (a free call using the house phone) which would put us in touch with a representative of the property owners.

All in all, for our party (three adults and a teenager) it was a lovely break away from it all, and we will certainly be going again.

Owner response

Thank you Jodel for your great review. We're so glad that you found everything to your satisfaction and hopefully look forward to welcoming you again at some future date.

Idyllic house in a peaceful setting.

Le Petit Reve is a clean and well maintained house set in a beautiful location.
Set in a small hamlet, you feel you are away from the hustle and bustle but there are
local amenities within a ten minute drive and plenty to do in the surrounding area.

The owners have, I think thought of everything. Satellite TV, WIFI, well equipped kitchen, comfy furnishings are all there to use as are outdoor activities such as badminton, Table Tennis, Footballs, Boules (Petangue) and an outdoor quick up family pool. Bikes are available to hire but we usually
take our own. Local trails /tracks start just through the wood over the rear of the property which are ideal for cycling or walking.

The owners, John and Pat have also taken considerable time putting together folders of places to visit and local eateries and If you are ever in a tight spot or need local help there is a contact available at the other end of the phone.

Myself and my family have been visiting Le Petit Reve regularly since 2007 and have never been anything but satisfied.

Félicitations pour votre beau travail

Owner response

10 / 10 K FARMER 25 June, 2016

During the last fourteen years we have stayed in this area at least once each year. We have stayed at several different houses and Le Petit Reve has proved to be our favourite by far, hence our return each year for the last five years.
We love the tranquil location in a hamlet which is within easy driving distance of La Rochefoucald and Angouleme, and several enjoyable walks are accessible from the property.
The property is always clean and prepared for our visit, and English speaking agents are close-by and accessible in the event of any problem.
The house is very well equipped with every appliance we could wish for, and everything is well maintained. It is literally 'home from home' and a credit to the owners.

We heartily recommend Le Petit Reve to any family wanting a quiet, comfortable, and very enjoyable stay in France.

The description and owners website accurately described the property. Le Petit Reve was one of the best equipped houses we have ever rented in France. The owners were friendly and helpful as were their agents in France when we had a minor problem. The property was very clean and comfortable, we had mixed weather so enjoyed the log fire in the chilly evenings and the BBQ and patio outside on sunnier days. The area has plenty to see and do, there are folders with useful information in the house. We especially enjoyed visiting lakes nearby with directions from the house, Cognac, Angouleme and Aubeterre sur Dronne. We had a lovely week and hope to return again in the future.

Owner response
