We were brought here by Escape to the Continent to look for a holiday home, but while staying here we fell in love with the property and were offered it by the owners. We sold our business in the UK and returned to live here full time with our Labradors and enjoy the relaxed lifestyle, friendly bars and restaurants and the superb sunny weather. With a background in hospitality and a fabulous setting we are confident we can offer you a genuinely enjoyable escape.

|Why this location?||We are surrounded by fields of sunflowers and wheat, oak woods and country lanes. Our garden has a river at the bottom and our lake is home to kingfishers, herons and several fish. The nearest town has an imposing chateau, good restaurants and a lovely wine bar.
The Charente is one of the sunniest areas of France and even in December we have been able to eat lunch outside.
We are close to local cycling networks and the area is perfect for walkers and kayakers.
|Unique benefits of property||For wildlife lovers the garden is perfect. We have red squirrels scampering through the trees and many species of birds including spotted flycatchers, golden oriels, goshawks and hen harriers. There are large specimen trees and unusual scented shrubs to wander among.
We are close to markets, supermarkets and visitor attractions but tucked away at the end of a quiet country lane.
The area has lots to do if you can tear yourself away from the pool but nothing beats lying in the shade with a good book and a glass of chilled white wine (which is very cheap here)
Close to national cycling network route
Hire a kayak to explore the local waterways
Local wine bar and gift shop selling authentic Charentaise produce
Good food in the nearby village. English spoken,
Large lake with man made beach, leisure area of 70 hectares with woodland and picnic areas.
Sailing, swimming and canoeing. 5km from Angouleme (about 30 minutes from us by car)
New water park with variety of water slides and leisure area. About an hour away from us
Lovely zoo with large selection of animals set in parkland. Snow leopards, lions, polar bears etc with close up viewing but plenty of natural space for the animals. About 2 hours away by car but worth the trip. And rhinos and hippos - www.zoo-palmyre.fr
An exact replica of an 18th century sailing ship. It is the largest and most authentically built tall ship in the last 150 years. The construction methods are displayed in the workshop next to the ship. www.hermione2015.com
Thanks so much for our stay at Le Grand Moulin which we really enjoyed.
We have just finished a weeks stay at le Grand Moulin in Poursac, Charente. The weather was lovely and sunny , a little chilly at times but that's the time of year. Still had a bit of a healthy glow from the sun.
Bill and Sarah along with their two Labradors were great hosts. They were there when we needed them, but also allowed us to enjoy our privacy. They were also helpful and informative in our quest to buy a house there ourselves.
The gite was ideal and had pretty much everything and was nicely decorated and maintained. The bed was comfortable, the shower spacious and powerful.
The grounds are simply the best we have come across. Lovely landscaped gardens with trees, shrubs a lovely pond and the Charente river at the bottom of the garden. There were lots of seating areas to choose from and a great hammock to relax in. This is what's sets this gite apart if you are looking for a peaceful setting.
We made use of the bikes to tour the local lanes. We even had some eggs from Bill and Sarah's chickens.
Visited the La Vallee des Singes which was really good, had nice meals out at Verteuil-sur-Charente ,Nanteuil-en-Vallée and lots of lovely villages to discover.
Great location, great gate, lovely hosts.
Thank you so much. may see you again soon.
From the moment we arrived at the gite it was like a home from home, really comfortable and well equipped. Because of the description and photos on the web site we felt as though we were familiar with the place already and quickly settled in. We were made to feel very welcome by Sarah and Bill, who were around for a chat (if you wanted one) but tried hard not to encroach on your privacy but were excellent hosts and could not do enough to help make the holiday special.
As keen walkers we discovered lots of local walks in the area and enjoyed the lovely villages, food and countryside. The grounds are beautiful and the the lovely pool came into it’s own with the hot weather.
We stayed for three weeks, which were so relaxing that by the time we left to go home we were practically horizontal!
If you enjoy comfortable surroundings, peace and quiet and the relaxing sound of running water, we can certainly recommend Le Grand Moulin.
