We are superbly situated on the Charente, Dordogne, Limousin borders to offer a fabulous region of France with all its attractions combined with the fantastic accommodation we have.
Our aims are to provide you with wonderful opportunities to build lasting memories with friends and family; so important in making a good holiday great.
The location is so perfectly tranquil for rest and relaxation with the stunning pool and its views. Situated at the top of the lane on a hill traffic noise is a real rarity.
For those of a more active nature walking and cycling routes run from your front door – from easy to strenuous, rarely seeing another person or vehicle.
The range of wildlife, flora and fauna, is immense with opportunities to see wild orchids, hoopoe birds and many other rarities.
Local culture from chateaux, markets, stunning architecture in local villages and towns…a favourite treat is a local producers market banquet on a summers evening – all available within a short drive.
Other activities within easy reach include kayaking, horse-riding, golf, go-karts, quad-bikes.
Summer nights often mean barbeques but for those looking to eat out, a range of restaurants nearby to suit all budgets can be recommended.
To entertain you whilst you are here then alongside the pool, we have 2 acres of grassland for games as well as table-tennis, boules, etc for your use.
Both of us are very keen on giving you the best experience we can; we are continually looking for ways to improve and add to your holiday. The quality of the accommodation is high, and we strive to maintain things to that standard.
This 2 bedroom gite is furnished and decorated to a high standard and benefits from a mix of period features and modern facilities. On the first floor you will find a king-size double bedroom with skylight to watch the stars at night, a twin bedded room and family bath/shower room. Downstairs is a well proportioned kitchen/diner/living room with stunning views over the countryside through the patio doors. These doors lead to your patio and out to the shared salt water pool and garden. There is the added benefit of a downstairs toilet.

The beaches and facilities at the various lakes are amazing. Laze on the sandy beach, hire canoes, pedalos etc. Use the exercise equipment. Eat in the restaurants.
From the garden you will see Hoopoe, redstarts, hawfinch, whilst a quick walk into the country will expand the list no end. The grues flying in early spring and late autumn are a sight to behold. We often see birds of prey too.
Not only is the Gite surrounded by beautiful countryside it is fully equipped to ensure you can go there without having to worry. The site is in excellent condition, is spotlessly clean and very comfortable. you can even gaze up at the stars from the double bed!! it feels like you are truly sleeping under the stars. The local amenities are approx 10mins drive away and the Inter marche supermarket stocks everything you need, there is also an Aldi and Lidl if you want to spend less! Also the bakery comes to the gite three times a week with fresh bread and cakes!!!
Amanda & Paul's knowledge of the local and wider field areas is fantastic, we love going to the market with them on Tuesday evenings where fresh local produce is cooked to order!! you get a real sense of community spirit. They are so friendly and approachable they have become part of our extended family. When we originally arrived last year there was wine, cheese, bread and milk for us,,,, this year was no different, perfect way to start your holiday.
We have never rebooked anywhere before, however Oaktree will remain our annual family holiday destination for the foreseeable future, well as long as Amanda and Paul will have us! We really cannot rate Oak Tree Gites enough, its our slice of heaven from morning through to night. There is lots to do and see, to get you started there is a very comprehensive information folder, well worth a read whilst you enjoy a glass of wine! have fun!
Beautiful tranquil location, fantastic well equiped gite, lovely pool, lovely views, excellent hosts, felt we had known them for years! A must to visit if you love rural France. Will definitely return.
A lovely gite, well appointed. Beautiful scenery and countryside for good walks and bike rides.Owners very helpful and extremely friendly. I'd certainly recommend it to others.
We are a family of 4 (2 daughters aged 21 and 16) and we stayed at Le Sorbier at the end of July/beginning of August. The gite is cosy, clean, the beds are very comfortable with lovely finishing touches throughout. The pool is delightful. The view from the gite is stunning and it is ideally located for walking and cycling. Paul and Amanda are fantastic hosts and although they have only moved permanently to France recently they are very knowledgeable of the area. We visited a number of villages including La Rochefoucauld (and its chateau), Nontron, Piegut Pluviers (the local market is amazing) and spent a (wet!) day in Cognac (we toured the distillery of Baron Otard which includes a look at the castle home of French King, Francois). The local supermarket is 5 mins away in Montbron, which is another pretty village. We hope to return again for another visit and would definitely recommend the gite to others.
