After spending many years travelling all over France, my husband & I found our own piece of paradise in the tiny hamlet of Servolles & relocated from the UK permanently in March 2015. We are fortunate to have wonderful French neighbours & our 5 year old, who goes to the local primary school has quickly integrated, we enjoy being part of our local community. Drawing on our own experience of what we wanted from a gite, we firmly believe that visitors will love Les Petites Cerises as much as we do.

Nearby Rochechouart is a pretty walled town with an attractive castle. The Chateau de Rochechouart dates its origins to the 13th century and is now home to the interesting Museum of Modern Art. Although the town purports to be 'the countryside of the meteorite', because 214 million years ago an enormous six billion tonne meteorite smashed into this spot - probably one of the largest meteorites ever to hit the earth - there is little evidence remaining of this catastrophic event today. However Rochechouart does have the Espace Météorite, a small museum, offering an insight into the solar system, meteorites, effects and consequences of meteorite's fall and the impact crater of Rochechouart-Chassenon.
Every 7 years Rochechouart holds an event called The Osensions Rochechouart, which will occur again in 2016 commencing on Monday 28 March to Sunday 15 May; consisting of services, concerts and processions in Rochechouart. You can take part in the final Procession in medieval costume on May 15th.
A little further afield are the vineyards of Cognac which is regarded as the Brandy capital of the world. No visit to the Charente region would be complete without a tour of one of the big distilleries; Hennessy, Martell, Remy Martin, Courvoisier etc. Most run guided tours including explanations of the grape growing process, distillation and demonstrations of blending techniques often including free tasting, most charge admission and it is worth pre booking to ensure your tour is in the language of your choice.
Just a few of the many attractions we would recommend visiting whilst holidaying in the Charente.
