The property is a luxury one bedroom gite, renovated from an old building on the owners' property. It is an upside down house and has its own private balcony and private courtyard garden. The property has been sympathetically renovated and retains some of its original features such as stone walls and exposed beams in the living room.
The balcony overlooks the cognac grape vines and is equipped with a sun umbrella and a table and chairs. The courtyard garden has sun loungers, sun umblrella and a gas barbecue.
The living area is open plan with a fully fitted kitchen and dining area at one end. There are ample kitchen units, including a large inset sink, a fridge-freezer and a dishwasher. There is a table and chairs (4) for indoor eating. All the necessary appliances are included, such as oven, induction hob, microwave oven, toaster and kettle. There are place settings for 6 people, plenty of cutlery and all necessary saucepans and kitchen utensils. At the back of the kitchen area is a staircase leading down to the bedroom, shower room and door to the outside private courtyard.
The living room is at the opposite end from the kitchen and dining area and has double doors which serve as the entrance doors, leading on to the balcony. There is a comfortable L shaped sofa, opposite a large flat screen, freesat television. The television also receives french programmes. There is also an iPod dock and dvd player. There is free wi-fi throughout the cottage.
The bedroom is situated on the ground floor and has a super king size bed, dressing table and chair. There are bedside lights, rugs at either side of the bed and a tiled floor. The bedroom is beautifully cool on hot summer nights and is equipped with a pull down fly screen at the window.
The shower room is very modern with a large glass sink, toilet and corner shower, 90 x 90. It has a tiled floor and half tiled walls. There is also a heated towel rail.

Le Cerisier has its own courtyard garden, off the downstairs corridor. There are sun loungers, with cushions, and a sun umbrella. There is also a gas barbecue. The garden is a real sun trap, ideal for lazeing away an hour or two with a good book and a glass of wine.
There is off road parking, alongside the owners' car, just in front of the large entrance door to the owners' property.
The property is unfortunately not suitable for disabled access, nor for small children.
There is a shared pool with a large dappled shaded pergola, over which grape vines ramble. There are sun umbrellas too and plenty of sun loungers. The pool extends to a maximum of 12m x 6m. The maximum depth is 2m. The pool area and the pool are fitted with lights for evening swimming.
We came to France in 2007 to live permanently, having previously lived and worked in London and the south east of England. We searched for some time for a suitable property from which to run a small gite business and then set to work. We finally opened for business in 2012. We have been fortunate to meet so many interesting people along the way and love that they too enjoy the peace and tranquility of Le Cerisier.

|Why this location?||The Charente region is reputed to have the second best climate in France. We enjoy long hot summers and the winters, although they can be harsh, are short. There is so much to do and see around the area and festivals abound in the summer, many of which are free. You can reach the coast in an hour or travel inland to visit Angouleme, Bordeaux, St Emilion or Aubeterre, to name but a few. There are many ways to get to this area. There are airports at La Rochelle, Limoges, Poitiers or Bordeaux. Many guests choose to drive and we are situated about 8 hours from Calais and 7 from the Normany ports or you can let the train take the strain and travel by Eurostar to either Lille or Paris and then onward by TGV to Angouleme, about 40 minutes' drive from us. Car hire is available at all the airports and at Angouleme station. If you travel by Brittany Ferries, we are able to offer a 20% discount code, subject to their terms and conditions. Please ask us at the time of booking.|
|Unique benefits of property||We hope we have provided a home from home in terms of comfort for our guests. Although the gite is in our garden, it is very private and guests can decide whether to breakfast on the balcony, overlooking the vines, to relax on the sun loungers by the pool or to chill with a good book and a glass of wine in the private courtyard garden, with only the hum of the bees to disturb the peace. Le Cerisier is ideal for couples wishing to kick back and relax. However it is near to many visitor attractions, one of which is to enjoy tasting the Cognac, Pineau (a local specialty) and wines at a distillery just 500m from the gite. Guests who stay here will find plenty of tourist information in the gite if they do wish to venture further afield and there are cycle and walking route maps for guests to peruse if they are feeling more energetic. In short, there is everything here to ensure a wonderful holiday - come and see for yourselves!|
There is so much to see and do in the area. Nearby is the pretty little town of Jarnac on the River Charente, Cognac with its old town centre and cognac houses to visit, Lignieres Sonneville with its beautiful Mairie and linen museum. Further afield is the coast or inland towards Aubeterre and St Emilion. Bordeaux, an elegant and vibrant city, is only an hour and a half away. We have plenty of tourist information in the gite and there is an Office de Tourisme in Segonzac, 2.5 km from Le Cerisier.
In early July you will find musicians in every nook and cranny of Cognac, culminating with performances at outdoor venues in Cognac and Jarnac. Past performers include Sting, Tom Jones, Joan Baez to name but a few. Further information can be found at http://bluespassions.com
