La Forge is a stone built cottage dating from the 18th century. It provides spacious accommodation on one level.
Chris and Paula are your resident hosts who believe in ensuring that your stay with them as their guests is a holiday you will remember.
Inside is a fully fitted modern kitchen including washing machine, fridge and separate 3 drawer freezer. There is a gas hob, electric oven and microwave.
A very large and comfortable sitting room also has the dining area. It benefits from its own dedicated internet connection, which also provides Wi-Fi connection for smartphones etc.
There is a very large double bedroom with wash basin and a comfortable and sunny second twin bedded room.
The shower room has a lavatory and basin unit.
In the cooler months, heating is from full gas central heating, which also provides constant and unlimited hot water.
The cottage receives both UK satellite television and French television.
Outside guests enjoy their own sitting and dining area with large parasol, and barbecue. The garden of 3 acres is a haven for wildlife and Paula's domain for planting. Nestling amongst the flowering shrubs is the 10 x 5 metre swimming pool, to which guests have unlimited and sole use. Here you can recline and relax under the Charente sunshine.
Les Chevilloux is totally enclosed and provides ample secure parking.
Les Chevilloux has a wildlife and fish pond, and flower gardens which could make it unsuitable for very young children.
Also available is a table tennis table, boules, badminton kit and bicycles. Our chickens will attempt to provide you with fresh eggs too!
Chris and Paula retired to the Charente from Dorset, England in 2000. We loved Les Chevilloux immediately. Paula is an enthusiastic and talented gardener and she has spent the last 15 years developing what was an "empty canvas". We share the gardens with woodpeckers, red squirrel and all types of other birds. <br/>We love sharing Les Chevilloux with our guests, many of whom return again and again.

|Why this location?||Why here? It is simple. The pace here is as gentle as it was in rural Dorset. It is not too far to get to from the Channel - just 4½ hours from Caen, yet far enough to feel "abroad" and enjoys a much better climate - the second sunniest region in France. Gastronomy is very important to the Charentais. This is home to the grape, melon, mussels, paté de foie gras and other duck and goose products, snails, and of course, Cognac.
On the threshold of the Dordogne and Vienne, Les Chevilloux is ideally placed for day trips to the coast, as well as the caves and grottoes of the Dordogne. However, there is plenty to see on the doorstep without going far. La Rochefoucauld; our local town is 7 minutes away and has all you may need for shopping, with new LECLERC supermarket, and little shops in town. There is a Saturday market there too. The imposing château is a must to visit. Angoulême, about 15 minutes drive, is a buzzing city with all types of restaurants.
|Unique benefits of property||Our 18th century stone cottage or "gîte" makes a very comfortable holiday retreat and we have, over the years, ensured that it is fully equipped with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. The 10 x 5 metre swimming pool is yours whenever you want it and is lit for those evening swims on balmy summer evenings. You also have free use of the village tennis courts. Our village restaurant is an ideal place to try authentic French country cuisine.|

We stayed at La forge for 2 weeks and had a fantastic time, Chris and Paula could not do enough for us and were the perfect hosts, although they were completely discreet we felt we were staying with family and not business owners.
The cottage had a homely feeling to it and included everything you need for a self catering holiday.
The grounds the cottage are set in are extensive and were great fun to explore with the children, especially the chicken coup where my daughter enjoyed collecting the fresh eggs daily for the owners of the property.
The swimming pool was fantastic, totally private and the owners made it clear as soon as we arrived that we had full uninterrupted use of it while staying there.
The grounds are completely secured and we felt relaxed letting our youngest wander the grounds looking for fresh eggs or to play on the swing unoccupied.
This cottage is a great base to explore the area including the local chateau, canoeing and high wire activity centre all of which are within 30 minutes of the property.
We will be returning in the future to further explore the area.
We have been welcoming guests to our home at Les Chevilloux for nearly 20 years. We enjoy every minute of preparing the cottage and grounds. The date approaches and we wonder what our guests will be like and whether they will enjoy their stay. The icing on the cake for us is to see smiling faces and 'our family' enjoying themselves. We thank the Hill family for setting what is for us, the 'Gold Standard' and I hope other hosts are as lucky as us with their lovely guests. Thank you and we do hope that you will return soon.
The owners were delightful. The children loved the large swimming pool and the gardens were beautifully maintained. There is lots to do in the local area including an equestrian centre within walking distance catering for all ages and experience. I thoroughly recommend this property.
It is always a pleasure to know that we have done our job. We set out to do everything possible for our guests and we are delighted to welcome such lovely people that we hope will return to Les Chevilloux.
This was a welcoming and beautiful setting to stay at. All the things we needed were there and it was clean and comfortable. The high points were the owners (who lived on site) as they were kind, welcoming and nothing was to much trouble for them if we needed anything. The children loved playing with Nell the dog, collecting eggs from the chickens and feeding the fish in the beautiful pond. The garden was a haven of peace to relax in and the pool was absoulty perfect! We were given privacy at all times and everything was at our disposal including games in the garden. The local town with its stunning chateaux and great restaurants, and the huge supermarket were only a few mins drive away. I would highly recommend this as a relaxing, pretty & fun holiday destination.
Our aim is always to give our clients a peaceful and enjoyable time. We enjoy welcoming our guests, particularly when they are appreciative and take full advantage of all we offer. If our guests are happy, then so are we and long may continue doing what we love best.
