'Les Cimes des Arbres' literally means 'the tops of the trees', and being set on a ridge, the panoramic views from the gite across the lush green landscape are simply stunning. Facing south, the sheltered, flower-filled courtyard in front is a real sun trap, and with a table for two right outside, you can enjoy a leisurely breakfast of coffee and croissants from the local boulangerie on those warm, sunny mornings.
And if you prefer a little welcome shade later on, you can relax under a parasol on the L-shaped outdoor sofa nestled amidst the honeysuckle and jasmine, making yourself comfortable on the cushions while you enjoy a glass of wine and a good book or perhaps have an afternoon snooze.
You will have exclusive use of the 10x5m heated pool which is right next to the gite. It has Roman steps leading down onto a gently sloping bottom, deep enough to swim with ease yet shallow enough to relax in and cool off after sunbathing. Whilst not a true infinity pool, the ground drops away from the front edge, allowing you uninterrupted views even when swimming. A large south facing decked area with sunbeds and parasols runs alongside the back of the pool, plus there is another delightful eating area under the banana tree, perfect for whiling away the evening while you enjoy some French fare and, finally, watch the sun go down across the tree tops.
The gite has been fitted out to the highest standard, with a French style to the furnishings and decoration. Much of the furniture has been sourced from local 'Brocantes' and lovingly refurbished with chalk paints for an authentic French shabby-chic look.
The gite is attached to our house at one end but on a lower level. You will have access to the whole of the property and grounds except for our private house and the upper terrace, which is gated off. We are situated at the end of a no-through road, so there is virtually no passing traffic. We will be available for any help you might need throughout your stay and are happy to recommend restaurants or places of interest etc. should you need it, but of course, endeavour to respect your privacy at all times.
We have a cat and a small dog on premises but both are friendly. We do live in a rural area and would not recommend booking our gite without the use of a car.
We very much look forward to welcoming you to Les Cimes des Arbres, and hope that you will love the gite and the beautiful countryside that surrounds it as much as we do.
The sitting and kitchen area is light, bright and sun-filled due to the double-width frenchdoors which open directly out onto the private courtyard. The solid wood kitchen is well equipped with fridge, washing machine, combination microwave oven and ceramic hob, plus a Nespresso coffee-maker for those of you who appreciate really good coffee. And for those rare occasions when you might want to eat inside, there is a breakfast bar just perfect for two. You'll also find a kettle style charcoal barbecue for your private use in the courtyard outside.
In the cosy sitting area, there are 2 leather tub-chairs facing a wall-mounted flat screen smart tv with dvd player, Freeview box and Netflix available. There's free wi-fi of course, plus plenty of dvds to watch should you fancy closing the curtains and having a quiet night in.
The Rococo inspired bedroom has an elaborate and fabulously comfortable king size bed with non-allergy duvet and pillows dressed in smooth, soft 600-count cotton bed linen. The bedroom window offers views across the courtyard and scenery beyond, ideal if you want to enjoy a lazy breakfast in bed. There's plenty of hanging and drawer space in the characterful painted French furniture.
There is a bright, modern en suite with a rococo sink unit and beautiful French mirror over, plus a large walk-in shower.
There is electric heating in the bedroom and bathroom, and a 'Provence' portable gas stove available if it is needed for the main kitchen/living area.
The gite has its own entrance and private parking at the rear of the property, so you can come and go as you please.
The gite is strictly non-smoking. We are sorry but Les Cimes des Arbres is for couples only and is not suitable for anyone under 21 or with babies or pets. We regret that, due to the different levels and access, the gite is not suitable for wheelchair users.
My husband Phil and I made the move to France in 2014 and have spent the first 2 years renovating our house and gite.

|Why this location?||We fell in love with this beautiful area of the Charente after many holidays spent travelling through France. Less tourist plagued than the neighbouring and better known Dordogne, and with some of the best weather in France outside of the Cote d'Azur, we think it is the undiscovered gem of the country. It's dotted with chateaux and medieval castles, stunning rolling countryside filled with sunflowers, quaint little towns and villages and their quintessentially French morning markets - and so many fabulous restaurants and cafes within a short drive that you could eat out at a different one every day for a year and still not have visited them all.|
|Unique benefits of property||'Les Cimes des Arbres' literally means 'the tops of the trees', and being set on a ridge, the panoramic views from the gite across the lush green landscape are simply stunning. Especially for couples, it makes the perfect peaceful, luxury hideaway in sunny, rural France. It has been lovingly completed to the highest standard with a french style to the furnishings and decoration and quality fixtures and fittings throughout.|
We had a lovely two week stay (October) in this delightful gite with private pool. It has a separate entrance but the owners are available next door should you need them after their warm initial welcome. Comfortable and beautifully decorated. King size bed in separate bedroom and very good size shower. It is wonderfully situated with amazing views. The nearby town of Aubeterre sur Dronne is lovely and the Creperie de la Source is well worth visiting more than once. Overall a quiet, relaxing holiday in gorgeous countryside near clear rivers with pretty hill towns and markets, chateaux and wineries to visit.
We had a lovely holiday, France is a beautiful place the gite we stayed in was beautiful the people who owned were very friendly and helpful in showing us places to visit and eating out places the information was very helpful we will definitely be coming back for another visit from Mrs Carol Herrett
We stayed here for 1 week and had high expectations following reviewing website etc
We were not disappointed, the quality of fittings and finishes are very high and the pool, deck and stunning view is amazing.
The village is a short drive away and you have no reason to go any further unless you want to explore the region.... We had intended to do this, but the Gite and pool was so tranquil that we barely left!
If you want a relaxed break, this is the place to come.
Fran and Phil are great hosts and leave you to your own devices but are there whenever you need them.
Perfection!! A perfect hideaway – a Dream holiday!!
We have just returned from a wonderful 11-night stay at Les Cimes Des Arbres. The most spectacular location which is made even better by fantastic hosts – Phil and Fran and of course our holiday dog and cat Growler and Basher. They were all so friendly and accommodating, felt like we had been friends for many years. On arrival, we were greeted by Fran and shown around and we couldn’t take our eyes off the view, the thoughtful pain au chocolat and bottle of red (which didn’t stay full for long) left on the breakfast table was greatly appreciated. They both respected our privacy but their company was something to be embraced with the knowledge of places to visit and recommended restaurants to dine at. St Severin has all the shops that you need and being only a 5 min car ride away what more could you ask for!! We stayed in the Gite that has been lovingly restored to an exceptional high standard. The standard of the accommodation is superb and perfect for a romantic getaway. The pool is fantastic and all set in beautiful surroundings.
We have fallen head over heels in love with the place and recommend it to anyone who wants the best that France has to offer for a restful holiday in beautiful surroundings.
We really are sulking to be back at home after staying in such a gorgeous place. We have also realised that we need to extend our French vocabulary as we cannot think of enough
