About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Lesley Dorman-Groves

We both decided a change of lyfestyle was in order, and we left our careers in the UK in 2004 to come to the Charente for a more relaxed pace of life and an occupation that would give us time to travel. Toby was the general manager of an electrical engineering company and I was a project manager in reprographics and print. We renovated a farmhouse and converted 2 barns and then built a cattery, and after a lot of hard work we made a very successful gite complex.

Year property purchased 2014
Why this location? Because of the stunning location and the ability to create a beautiful and spacious gite.
Fields of grapes, rows of vines, nodding sunflowers, forests of towering oak trees and turreted chateaux perched high above winding rivers - when you're in the Charente, you'll see some of the loveliest countryside in France. Grange Lapan is situated amongst these sunflower fields and is a very spacious property so ideal for large groups or just families needing a little more space. We have provided all the modern facilities you would expect but kept as much of the original character as possible, giving Grange Lapain a wonderful homely yet very French feel.
Unique benefits of property Wonderful views, extremely spacious and very tranquil. Great pool area for the children and the town of Montmoreau and Chalais are on the doorstep.

Wonderful places to visit

Officially listed as one of « The Most Beautiful Villages in France» since 1993, it has welcomed pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostella in north west Spain, visitors and tourists for over 1000 years. Two important historical monuments add to the cultural status of Aubeterre sur Dronne; the extraordinary, monolithic, underground Church of St Jean and the Romanesque Church of St Jacques, with its stunning façade. Visitors and tourists can enjoy meandering through the ups and downs of the narrow streets, popping in to admire the many specialist shops, including a leather worker and potters, and then settling down in the village square, Place Trarieux, at one of the cafés or restaurants, comfortably shaded by ancient lime trees.
You can visit Cognac and take one of the very informative tours or one of the many local wineries. There are some great markets in the local villages of Chalais, Aubeterre and Villebois Lavalette not to mention the huge market in the pretty town of Riberac. There are some lovely walks around the property and also great cycling.
