Stunning Converted 4 Bedroom Rural Farmhouse. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

At the end of a no-through road our beautiful house couldn't be a more perfect place to spend your French holidays. With 4 double bedrooms, incl a master suite with it's own bath tub with jaw-dropping views through the French doors to a balcony. There are 2 further double bedrooms, 1 single bedroom and 2 further shower rooms. Downstairs there is a massive open plan living and dining room and a large, very well equipped kitchen with 2 range cookers. French doors lead out from both the living room and the kitchen to the garden and terraces. The pool is hidden behind an old stone wall, where you can swim whilst taking in the lovely views. As it's at the end of the road beyond us are open fields and tracks, making it perfect for walking and of course there is no passing traffic except for the farmer and his cows!



Kitchen and dining

The kitchen/dining room is vast. There is a fully equipped kitchen as the owner is a professional cook, so there are 2 range cookers, a beautiful zinc topped island bench and heaps of work top space. There are frenchdoors leading off the dining area at the other end of the kitchen onto the terrace with designated eating, lounging and seating areas.

There is a dishwasher and a large American-style fridge-freezer, plus a separate large drinks fridge.

The dining tables easily seats 8 people.

There is plenty of cutlery, crockery, napery and other essentials for eating in.

Living rooms

Adjoining the kitchen/diner is one equally large and impressive lounge area with ample seating including 2 large sofas, a log burner and a tv at one end, whilst by another set of frenchdoors leading on to the lawn and pool area is another seating area with armchairs and a coffee-table.


All bedrooms are upstairs. At one end there is a large master suite with a bath tub, en suite toilet and sink unit. The bedroom and bath have views out through another set of French doors onto the balcony and the views beyond are stunning. There is a large double wardrobe.

There are 2 further good size double bedrooms as well as a large single bedroom. Each room has ample storage in wardrobes or chests of drawers. All have stunning views from the windows. There is a shower room and toilet on this floor for them to share as well as a second shower room and toilet on the ground floor, so plenty of room for everyone.


The upstairs bathroom is in fact a shower room with a large walk-in shower, toilet and hand basin.

Downstairs the shower room is the same with a large shower, toilet and hand basin.


There is a newly installed oil central heating system so everywhere is snug in the winter. There is also a lovely wood burner stove in the lounge, great for chilly winter days or over Christmas.


There is a large tv with a recorder. There is a dvd player and a Sonos music system you can use with your iPod, There is also a Bowse base station for an iPod or iPhone.

Garden and outside

Outside the lounge is a small lawn garden ideal for the younger kids to have a run about and kick a ball. From there you will see a (lockable) gate beyond which is the swimming pool and beyond this stunning uninterrupted views of the countryside.

The terrace area by the kitchen is graveled and there is a seating area with an old French day bed. There is a round table with chairs and an umbrella for casual meals as well as a beautiful vine covered pergola with a dining table and seating for 8, a perfect spot to dine lunch time or evenings as the sunsets to one side.

Steps from here will take you down to a lower garden with a small veggie bed, which the guests have access to depending on the season.

The track by the house leads onto farm fields and a track with public access so its easy to walk off road or cycle for hours.

Parking and garages

There is ample parking for 4 cars, and although not a garage it is private and safe with no passing traffic.

Visitor suitability

The property is suitable for families with children as the pool is safely fenced and the only entrance is a lockable 6ft gate.

It is perfect for a group of friends who want separate designated sleeping areas.

It is, at present unsuitable for wheelchair users or the elderly with any walking difficulties with no bedroom downstairs.

My husband and I live part of the time at the property with our 2 small dogs. We love to open our home to share with people when we are away. It helps the house to feel like a home, a real home away from home is our aim for holiday makers.

Why this location? The peace and tranquility and quality of house. It is in a small hamlet of just 5 houses so although it is rural it isn't isolated and with the shops just a mere 3 minutes from us by car, it is the perfect place to live either full time or as a holiday home. The region is stunning and reminds us of the rolling hills of the UK. The locals are exceptionally friendly and we have so many markets, brocantes, and points of interest in the area there is always something to do. Angouleme is a wonderfully vibrant and cultural small city just 25 minutes away which is great.
Unique benefits of property The house is exceptionally well renovated with terracotta floors, local stone walls and stunning original oak beams. We are at the end of a no-through road so the only passing traffic is the farmer and his cows! The views from both downstairs are upstairs are stunning and we can't even see another house. The house has 3 sets of frenchdoors making it incredibly light and bright. It has central heating and wood fires for the winter, but in the summer due to the thick walls and many doors and windows it remains cool. The garden is lovely with a secret door through an old barn wall that takes you to the pool area. The borders are alive with lavender and are simply stunning in the summer and a hive of activity for bees and butterflies. You can walk from the house to the tracks and fields with miles and miles of walking tracks.

City of Angouleme

Angouleme is built on ramparts and at the top there are pretty cobbled streets crammed with bars, cafes, restaurants and 2 daily markets. It is the capital of the cartoon industry in Europe and holds a week of celebrations in January every year. There is also the annual vintage Bugati race held every Sept. where the streets are taken over by fabulous old racing cars which hurtle around the old streets and the ramparts.

The Charente river flows through the city and to the West you can visit the pretty towns of Jarnac and Cognac and ride in a guided boat tour. The region is of course famous for cognac and there are many vineyards you can visit to try taste this wonderful brandy.

The seaside is a great day trip from us with stunning sandy beaches at Royan and St George Didonne. Bordeaux is only 45 minutes by TGV from Angouleme, so perfect for a shopping trip.
