We recommend 'Le Square' in Aigre. Really friendly staff and usually quick service which can be important with young, hungry tummies. There is a reasonably priced children's menu and the pizzas are fantastic. You can also order pizza to collect.
For amazing patisserie and the best croissants we've tasted, we recommend B-Sweet in Verdille. It's only 5 minutes away and well within cycling distance. The staff are always really kind with the children and the Danish owners are English speaking.
Bikes delivered to your gite during your stay. There are pull-alongs and children's bikes too at reasonable rates. Perfect!
We pack a picnic and make a full day of it. (We can provide all your picnic plastics, cool box, etc etc) There are shady picnic tables near the car park.
There's lots of shade as you go around and it's very child-friendly. There are reptiles, birds and animals (including wolves) in plenty of space, well-kept and as they say - 'rencontres a l'etat pur'. There's also a cafe for ice-creams, drinks and snacks. English speaking staff. Check out the website for more information. Our kids loved it.
In less than 40 minutes, you can be at Angouleme with its 'Zone de Montagne' for those who might like to grab a bargain at Decathlon and the large 'out-of-town' shops; or stroll in the city taking in the impressive architecture and eating at one of its amazing restaurants.
For the children, there's the impressive 'Plan d'eau' which is an inland beach with play areas, cafes and activities. There's 'Nautilis' with its outdoor slides and swimming pool, ice rink and cafe. There is a tramplone and laser quest centre in Angouleme too. Not to mention the race circuit and all the festivals that take place there. Did you know that it's the home of the Comic? There really is something for everyone and it's right on our doorstep.
In under an hour, this is well worth the travel for a full, family day out. We pack a picnic and there is plenty of shade for eating plus a little kiosk for drinks, ice-creams and light snacks.
Follow the clues to crack the code and solve the pirate mystery. It's fun and interactive. The trail takes you around the grounds and inside the Chateau. Our children loved it and so did the adults. Clues and maps are available in English as well as French.
