|Why this location?||When we first visited this are we fell in love with the relaxed ambiance of the unspoiled rural environment. We decided that it was the perfect place for us to retire to and open up a small gite complex. The gîtes at Le Bois de l'Eglise are contained within a tastefully renovated typical Charentais farmhouse complex comprising 4 gîtes. Le Bois de l'Eglise is a tiny hamlet close to the village of Villiers le Roux in the commune of Villefagnan in south West France. It is near to the town of Ruffec with its supermarkets, bi-weekly market, shops, cafés and public amenities. The location is rural countryside retreat perfect for cycling and walking.
The region has its own micro-climate and has some of the sunniest weather in France, second only to the French Riviera. The area is primarily agricultural, with abundant sunflowers in the summer, and the surrounding woods and copses provide for a large variety of animal and birdlife.
|Unique benefits of property||The Storeroom is an independent unit, contemporarily furnished beamed cottage at the middle of the farmhouse. There is one large bedrooms upstairs with en suite bathroom and downstairs there is an open plan area which comprise the living, dining room and fully equipped kitchen.
Fresh towels and bedding are supplied at the beginning of your stay and are replaced each week each week of your stay. All you need to bring is yourself and your personal items.
Close by are the picturesque villages of Verteuil-sur-Charente and Nanteuil-en-Vallée with their excellent restaurants. There is a swimming lake in Villefagnan and a kayak/canoeing location on the Charente River close to Ruffec both of which are around 15 minutes by car.
There are number of signposted cycling routes around the area one of which starts very close to our gites.
Poitou Charentes is on the western coast of France, facing the Atlantic Ocean and the Bay of Biscay. It is made up of 4 department regions, Deux Sevres to the north, Charente to the south, Vienne to the east and Charente Maritime to the west. Poitou Charentes has so much to offer the visitor with so much to see and do and enjoy.
The Charente, where the Le Bois de l'Eglise is situated, has a reputation of quiet area where you can explore the rural area far from the crowds. There are great places to visit such as Angoulême with its ramparts and its captivating city centre with a mix of old and new and the unexpected, Cognac, with its focus on the famous brandy, Confolens which is home to the Festival de Folklorecand Aubeterre-sur-Drone with its fascinating underground church.
