La Grange Terrou is a small estate with the owner's house and 2 gites, plus various barns and stable buildings. The houses are set in extensive gardens and surrounded by the owner's fields and woodland, in total about 50 acres.
Maison de la Chasse was once the farmhouse for the estate but has now been fully renovated to provide a spacious 5 bedroomed holiday home. We have been careful to renovate and provide modern amenities but at the same time retaining the original charm of the building.
Maison de la Chasse is set slightly apart from the owner's house and second gite, in its own private garden with private heated pool.
The location is rural, we hear the occasional car but it is more likely to be a tractor yet at the same time we are only a short walk from our local village and only 4km from Confolens with supermarkets, banks etc.
The large kitchen\dining area is to the right of the main entrance hall and leads directly into the garden. It is fully equipped with a gas range cooker, fridge-freezer, separate drinks fridge, dishwasher and a washing machine in the adjacent utility room. There is a range of small electrical equipment including microwave, coffee-machine, kettle, toaster, food mixer.
There is an indoor dining area to the rear with seating for up to 12.
The main living area is upstairs. There is a large area with three comfy sofas for relaxing or watching tv (We have UK tv plus a dvd player and an assortment of dvds. ) Plus there is a games area with pool table, stereo and an assortment of boardgames.
The beamed ceiling gives an old world feel.
There are 2 downstairs bedrooms which share a shower room and loo. Bedroom 1 is a double, bedroom 2 is a kid's room with 2 sets of built in bunk beds decorated in a nautical theme.
Upstairs are 3 double bedrooms, 2 of which are en suites with walk-in showers. The third bedroom has a sink but must share one of the other bathrooms.
All bedlinen and bath towels are provided and changed weekly if you are staying for more than one week.
There are 3 bathrooms each with walk-in Italian style shower, wash basin and loo. There are two immersion heaters for the house to ensure plenty of hot water.
Heating is by electric heaters plus there is a wood burner in the kitchen. Wood is supplied free of charge.
There is an assortment of books, boardgames, cds and dvds in the house.
In the garden there is a badminton net and set of boules.
In the main garden is a play area with swings for younger kids and a ping pong table, plus hammocks for adults to use while supervising!
We have devised a treasure trail around the property for younger children, ask us for details.
Clearly the main feature of the garden is the gorgeous heated swimming pool! The pool is 9m x 4m and a constant depth of 1m. There is decking around the pool and a variety of sun loungers and umbrellas.
There is a large covered area with tables and chairs for outside dining and a gas bbq. A large covered gazebo with comfy seating provides shade for those who need it and is an ideal place for a sundowner.
The garden is fenced so is ideal for those wishing to visit with dogs.
Guests are also welcome to wander around the main gardens or visit our woodland which leads down to the River Issoire.
There is plenty of parking outside the house. If you have cycles or motor bikes and would like these stored securely this can be arranged in our barn
This is an ideal location for an extended family or 2\3 families travelling together or for a group of friends.
It is an ideal location to relax and enjoy the un spoilt countryside of the Charente. There are lots of beautiful villages and sites to explore, brocantes to visit and local fetes. We have a number of different restaurants and local bars not far away.
(Not a location for discos and exciting nightlife!)
We also welcome animal lovers as we have 2 horses, 3 cats, 3 dogs and a family of chickens.
The owners live on-site in the main house where there welcome bed and breakfast guests. They are always nearby if you need help or advice. If you don't feel like cooking one evening you can join in their table d'hôte or they are happy to arrange special catering for you - pizza evenings seem to be especially enjoyed by children!
A keen gardener and aspiring show jumper, France is the perfect place to indulge my hobbies. We (Karen and Robert) live on site at La Grange Terrou and run bed and breakfast in our home plus we have 2 gites as well so we are always busy. <br/>We are keen DIYers and have totally renovated the properites and are still busy making improvements to the land, at the moment cutting paths through our extensive woodland.

|Why this location?||When we were looking for a location in France we wanted the warmer climate but also wanted to be able to garden and for Karen to ride her horses. The Charente is the perfect area for us with rolling green valleys and miles of tracks and unspoilt countryside to explore.|
|Unique benefits of property||We are in a countryside setting with no close neighbours but only 1km from our local village and 4km from the nearest town. Our gite, Maison de la Chasse has its own private heated pool set in a beautiful garden over looking our fields.
The gite, which was previously a farmhouse, has been recently renovated and has all modern amenities but still retains its rustic character.
Start your trip in our local town of Confolens and Kayak down to our village at St Germain de Confolens
There are several beautiful castles in our local area; in our village are the remains of a 15th century castle. A twenty minute drive takes you to La Rochfoucauld where you can visit the castle and children can dress up in clothes from the era.
Our local restaurant in Esse is a fabulous restaurant and only 5 minutes away
Located at l'Isle Jourdain, for those mad enough to jump off a bridge on a wire! Or try the zip wire across the river. A bit tamer is to try the water skiing on the lake.
A fabulous property in a wonderful location. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend this property!
A nice property with some lovely original features that is well equipped and serviced. Useful outside shade areas for relaxing and dining although we did have to move the table around to avoid the sun. The heated, above ground pool is a credit to the owners and it's depth was ideal for our young grandchildren. The owners were kind, friendly and most helpful and there are lots of things to do in the area.
