This charming cottage is converted from an old stone Forge building. Pillac is a small hamlet which is on the borders of the Charente and the Dordogne separated by the river Dronne. It overlooks beautiful countryside ideal for walking and cycling etc. The village of Saint-Severin is 10 minutes’ drive away and has a Spar Supermarket, Post Office, Restaurants and Bar/Cafes. There is a 9 hole Golf Course locally and just an easy stroll takes you to the village of Bors with a lovely Pub/Microbrewery.
This region is known for its great climate with sun drenched summers, rolling green hills and valleys as far as you can see, and all the history you could ever need. The food and drink is superb and the people are welcoming. The area is a paradise for wine lovers who may wish to visit the numerous chateaux and wine caves on the Bordeaux wine trail.
Pillac is located on the Charente / Dordogne border in a beautiful valley in rural South West France. Nearby villages are full of activity, with places to visit, dine and drink. The picturesque old Roman town of Aubeterre Sur Dronne, which was recently listed as one of the prettiest villages in France is only a bike ride away. Wander up through the winding streets to the 12th century subterranean church carved out of the rock or enjoy a drink on the village square with its variety of shops, eateries and museums, all overlooked by a 1000 year old Chateau. Alternatively walk down to the river beach for a swim, relax or a bite to eat.
Slightly further are the market towns of Chalais and Riberac (with one of the biggest markets in France!). Further still, about a 45 minute drive, are the capital towns of Angouleme and Perigeux which offer a wider and more sophisticated range of shops in a typically French setting. Brantome, nicknamed the ‘Venice of Perigord’ is well worth a visit at a similar distance.
Also within easy reach are towns such as St. Emilion, Bergerac, Cognac and Bordeaux, all famous for their wines and spirits and equally beautiful places to visit. Beyond Bordeaux are the unspoilt beaches of the Atlantic coast with several superb resorts all within a reasonable drive.
Local activities range from walking, sightseeing, tree climbing, canoeing, cycling, fishing, or even jet–skiing and quad biking to name but a few. Wine tasting and degustation are of course a staple part of the French experience!
There are a variety of local festivals, fetes and firework displays that take place throughout the summer in the local villages and towns. These are aimed at all ages and generally take place between the months of June and September.
Children will find plenty to occupy themselves and their families with activities ranging from crazy golf, horse riding and tree top adventure's to daytrip’s to the popular attractions of Aqualand Water Park, La Palmyre Zoo and Futuroscope.
Longeveau Golf Resort is ten minutes’ drive away which has pretty nine hole course and tennis

Explore the quaint village
Le Forge is a wonderful holiday home.
Clean , comfortable and has everything you could possibly need whilst staying.
A welcome pack was left for us when we arrived, and it far exceeded the norm.
Our names were on the plaque at the front door to greet us..super.
Venturing inside we were greeted with a french feeling home so welcoming.
Set in the pretty and quiet hamlet of Pillac where the only pleasant disturbance is the church bells, which I looked forward to everyday.
A perfect setting for visiting the most amazing countryside and sights.
Highly recommended and we shall return
We wanted peace and quiet and that’s what we got! La Forge is lovely! Well equipped, and very comfortable. The nearest bar, restaurant etc is about 5kms away. The local people are extremely friendly and helpful. Many thanks to Ed and Carolyn who are on hand to give assistance if required. A very pretty setting and a fantastic place to unwind. Thank you.
La Forge is simply stunning!!
When we made the booking for La Forge at Pillac we hoped that at the very least there would be a comfortable bed to sleep in. That maybe some of the kitchen utensils would be usable for actually making a meal. I am sure you get the picture.
Upon arrival at Pillac, from the moment that we opened the door to the property we realised that we had arrived at somewhere very special. The place was spotlessly clean, with everything that you could possibly need to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Everything in the place is quality from the bed linen, bath & pool towels, Kitchen appliances and utensils. There are fans in each bedroom that work a treat. This is a very well cared for property.
The garden along with plunge pool is more than enough for a couple to have a most enjoyable stay. There are plenty of shaded areas for when the sun is at it height.
The local area around Pillac is rural France at it's best. With all amenities required within a short distance. There are some great places to eat in Aubeterre Sur Dronne which is within a short drive,
In short, if like me you always hope that your hard earned money will not be wasted on another Gite full of second hand poor quality furnishings, fear not. From the moment of making the booking, contact from the owner more than enough with plenty of helpful advice.
La Forge is the real deal, get it booked. You will not be dissapointed.
We really can't thank you enough for your kind words and we are so glad you found La Forge so comfortable. We are very lucky to be in such a accessible location.
We have received many nice comments left in our visitors book but it is so good of you to have taken the time to leave your review on the sight. Much appreciated.
We hope you will one day be able to return again when you need a break from the grind.
Kind regards Rob & Kath
