About the Owner/Advertiser, Mr Keith Foley

I came to France permanently in 2012 having worked in teaching and the public sector for 25 years. I love the peace that the countryside offers and enjoy cycling around the local area and swimming. Hosting holidaymakers has been a great way to meet people from all backgrounds and nationalities and it's something I enjoy tremendously.

Year property purchased 2008
Why this location? We were searching for a location to contrast completely with the busy and hectic lives we were leading in the UK. After a long search we found the property we had been looking for, offering us an ideal countryside location and a property which would provide us with a place to live the rural idyll and the space to share this dream with others. After moving here permanently in 2012, the gite was completed the following year.

Ruffec

Ruffec is a larger town situated 20 minutes away offering a wide selection of cafes, bars and shops. Of historic interest the Saint-André church is well worth viewing. It was originally a Roman church but since its destruction during the 17th century, it was rebuilt in a Gothic style.

Verteuil sur Charente

Verteuil is dominated by the beautiful Chateau, which can be visited by prior arrangement with the winery La Régie (park, kitchen, courtyard, chapel, guards room). The beautiful water mill situated below the castle contributes to the charm of this place. There are a number of bars and cafes and some lovely walks around the village.

La Rochefoucauld

The main attraction here is the chateau which dominates the skyline as you approach. Well worth visiting, especially on very hot days when the very thick walls give some relief!! The town itself has a number of narrow roads offering bars, restaurants and a range of shops including a major supermarket

Angoulême

The capital of the Charente and just 30 minutes drive away. Parking at the Ramparts (Les Halles) gives easy access to the Town hall, Cathedral and museum, all well worth a visit. For those more interested in the retail experience Angoulême offers a wide range of shopping from quirky individual to the big fashion and department stores. The alleyways around the Ramparts offer many bars and restaurants where you can happily while away your afternoons and evenings.
