Visitors' comments:
"We found Le Studio to be the ideal base from which to explore this region of rural France whilst still within striking distance of the coast. The accomodation is well appointed, comfortable and enjoys a fabulously peaceful setting and we would certainly recommend this property." K & Z Holmes, Cambs. July '13.
"We had a great time. Le Studio is well situated and only a short drive to amenities/sightseeing etc. Well equipped, clean and comfortable. We met Wendy and Trevor, the owners who were staying next door and they were delightful and so helpful. We can thoroughly recommend staying at Le Studio and would not hesitate in returning." Sue & Paul, Brighton. August '13.

Open beamed ceilings, and exposed Charantaise stonework throughout.

Westerly facing fully glazed entrance door with easterly facing window by table.

Living rooms

The main source of heating would be the woodburner situated in the corner of the lounge, but electric radiators throughout the gite can be used instead.

A large double bedroom which faces east over the surrounding countryside - a truly welcoming sight with sunshine first thing in the morning.

Sun terrace accessed from the bedroom. Suntrap with truly wonderful views over the surrounding countryside.

Accessed from the bedroom, the bathroom is equipped with toilet, washbasin, bidet and large walk in shower.

Open beamed ceiling with exposed stonework adds to the overall charm.

Garden and outside

A hot tub for you to use after a busy day, secluded and partially shaded

The small enclosed garden would be facing east and, like the terrace, would be in sunshine until mid afternoon, following which the amenity grass area which faces west and is outside the main door would be bathed in sunshine later on. Parts of Le Studio would be in the sun all day long.

Parking and garages

Parking space immediately adjacent to the property.

Visitor suitability

With the stairs being somewhat steeper than the 'norm', people with walking difficulties should contact us regarding suitability and practicality.

Information about any additional facilities

This is a very quiet property in a particularly quiet part of the village and generally speaking, probably the most that you will hear would be the song birds.

We cannot overstate the quite wonderful country views from the terrace - most years offering sunflowers.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Wendy Hayne

We have recently retired with most days being taken up with walking, cycling, golf or just relaxing in the garden with a glass of wine.

Year property purchased 1994
Why this location? We decided on the Charente Maritime after holidaying in this area. We found the climate very good and the local people extremely friendly. We have never regretted our decision. Having retired we now spend the whole summer here.
Unique benefits of property Character, peace and tranquility and easy access.

The Owner Recommends

There is a very old and wonderful chateau at nearby Dampierre which is well worth a visit.

Local Markets

There is always a magnificent array of fresh fruit and vegetables on display at these local markets which is complemented by the local atmosphere.
Wednesdays and Saturdays at St. Jean D’Angely.
Sunday’s at Aulnay and Friday mornings at Loulay.

The Green Venice

About 40 minutes drive from the cottage in a north westerly direction, you will find the Venice Verte or Green Venice - the central point probably being at Coulon.
Here you have the option of paddling your own punt through a maze of waterways that criss-cross the forest or be lazy and hire your very own ‘gondolier’.
One of their favourite party tricks is to set fire to the water by releasing methane on the river bed.
Not to be missed.

Eating Out

We are spoilt by the number of superb value restaurants that are within just a quarter of an hours drive from the cottage.
Les Sources du Moulin de Migre. One of our favourites and only 10 minutes drive.
Hotel de la Place, Le Petit Bouchon and Le Scorlion at St. Jean.

There are a number of guided tours over the many distilleries that are found in Cognac with Hennessy probably being the most professional and following your visit, there is a lovely restaurant nearby and by the river Charente where you can enjoy lunch and a glass of your favourite.
Why not end the day in style and wind down with a relaxing boat trip on the Charente.

La Rochelle

La Rochelle is a MUST on your list of things to do and visit.
Lunch by the harbour, a visit to the aquarium, cycling through the town, relaxing on the beach, strolling around the old streets and maybe some shopping.
Take a pleasure boat trip to the nearby Ile d’Aix where you can also hire bicycles for an hour or more and just explore.

Le Studio is in the heart of rural France. You are surrounded by farm land in this hamlet. The only noise you hear is the occasional car and tractor. The nearest village is 10 minutes away by car so if you want a quiet location, this is ideal. The facilities are quite good and Le Studio represents very good value for money for a couple. It is an ideal location if you enjoy walking, cycling,R&R with many villages and small towns that have cafes and restaurants where you can eat at lunchtime for 10-15 Euros.
If you want handy night life, this is not for you.
