Etaules is in Charente-Maritime in the Poitou Charentes region of France in the heart of the Arvert peninsula. The Charente-Maritime really has it all with historical ports, oyster farms, Roman sites, beautiful villages and some of the Atlantic’s finest beaches. Boat rides down the Charente offer a delightful change and a visit to a Cognac distillery is a must. Other activities include golf, walking, water sports, quad biking, horse riding, tennis, fishing trips, casinos, wine tasting and cycling, with many marked cycle tracks and bike rental available. The zoo at La Palmyre is a great family day out where you can feed the giraffes popcorn!
All local towns, villages and resorts have a variety of restaurants serving local dishes and produce, seafood is a great specialty here. On the estuary at La Tremblade you will find many cabins serving locally caught seafood – a very French experience. You must try the local dish of mussels cooked on a bed of pine needles – very interesting to watch. Also tasting the local aperitif, Pineau, is an absolute must.
