Renovated farmhouse with private pool. Set in over 5 acres in a quiet hamlet close to the River Charente and its wildlife. Great area to explore by car, bike. Central location (within 1 hour drive) makes exploring Royan, Ile d'Oléron, La Rochelle, Atlantic beaches and Gironde Estuary easy. Activities include fishing, golf, watersports, horse riding, walking and cycling.
The house is attached to a cottage and barns which are owned by ourselves and are not in use or occupied.
Character accommodation includes fully-fitted kitchen with washing machine, dishwasher, fridge-freezer. Dining room, living room with sat tv, dvd and wi-fi. Two double bedrooms and a twin bedded room with en suite. The twin bedded room and bunk bedroom share a bathroom with bath and shower. Wi-fi as well as a cot and highchair are available.

A large kitchen with a traditional partly renovated fireplace and sink at the rear of the building. It is fully equipped with large fridge, dishwasher, large cooker, microwave, grill, toaster and plenty of cupboard space. There is sufficient cutlery and crockery for 10 people as well as pots and pans. There is a table and 6 chairs at the window end of the kitchen. There is a utility area with a washing machine and a freezer which leads out to the terrace.
A big room with a beam running the length of the room, a traditional fireplace and 2 exposed walls. There is an oak table and chairs with matching sideboard and mirror. A light airy room with ceramic floor tiles and a highchair.
The living room has a beam running the length of the room with french doors leading to the rear terrace. There are 3, three seater leather sofas and coffee-tables. The room has a UK satellite tv and dvd player. A light airy room with ceramic tiles and a sideboard with a few games.
Main bedroom with a king size bed, oak beams and en suite with large 1.4m shower, wash bowl and wc. Second bedroom, light and airy, with king size bed, oak beams, an en suite with large 1.1m shower, washbasin and wc. The third bedroom has twin beds, oak beams and an en suite with large 1.1m shower, washbasin and wc. The fourth bedroom is at the back of the house with 2 Velux windows, twin beds, oak beams and an exposed wall. The bunk bedroom is a comfortable size. A cot is available.
The main bathroom has a bath and separate shower, a wash bowl on top of some unique wooden shelving, wc and wooden beams. Downstairs there is a wc and washbasin.
There is underfloor heating to the ground floor and radiators to all upstairs rooms
There is a large pool area with sundeck. The pool is 12 x 6m with Roman steps leading into the shallow end which is just over a metre deep and the deep end is 2 metres deep. The pool complex includes a shaded area if the sun is too hot, a toilet and an outside cold shower to rinse off. There are sun beds, table and chair sets available. In the house there is a set of plastic plates and mugs to use around the pool area.
There is also a trunk with all sorts of games etc to play and suitable for all age groups. The living room has UK satellite tv and dvd player.
The terrace has a small balcony leading from the living room. There are tables and chairs to eat outside in the shade and a large bbq. We also provide 2 tables and chair sets which seat 4 people each, to be used in the front if required.
There is plenty of parking available both undercover as well as outside
The farmhouse is set in 5 acres of land and has a high level of privacy. There are open views to the rear and side of the house. To the front there are some large barns which belong to the property and a private driveway. The house is attached to another cottage and some further barns none of which are used at present. The house is in a peacefully quiet area with some stunning wildlife (peregrines and deer in the back garden). The house has had a quality renovation trying to keep as many of the original features as possible. The hallway is almost totally original and is like stepping back 150 years with original floor tiles seated on the soil and staircase. The building has been modernised and includes many features including underfloor heating, full ventilation system and a balance of different lighting.
We currently live in Somerset but have lived in many places in the UK. <br/>Ann has now retired after spending many years working in education and Russ has always been in business, both in a large corporate companies and with a small company which he is currently a director of. Having worked in Europe as well as the UK in a customer facing environments this has generated a firm belief about the high standards that we should provide to our guests.

|Why this location?||We love this area of France particularly. The area firstly has the micro climate which does mean that it is the second most sunny area of France. It is has the benefits of both beautiful countryside and a variety of different coastal locations.
It is all about location and we are situated bang in the middle of where we want to be and we can get to such a range of different places easily. From the business hub of Bordeaux to the vineyards of St Emillion. From the bustling town of La Rochelle to the fishing village of La Tramblade and the local markets around the area are great.
It is not only the houses that have a warm feel in the area, the locals are very welcoming and will away make an effort to understand you no matter how good your French is.
|Unique benefits of property||I just love to eat outside on the terrace and watch the world go by, well maybe not the world, but the wildlife.
If you are lucky you will see the deer, you may see the White Storks, in fact I saw some Black Storks last time I was over. The Hoopoe are around frequently, the Black Red Starts, our resident barn Owl and the Sparrow Hawk. You will see soaring the Black Kites and Buzzards and the Kestrel hovering for his food. Oh and you may see the Golden Oriole.
Nice, friendly, traditional French restaurant in the village of Courcoury approx 1-2km. Also a range of restaurants in the nearby village of Channier. Many varieties in Saintes.
We stayed at Le Cerisier for 2 weeks in July 2012 and am so pleased we did. We wanted a rural setting but not too far away from the coast and this definitely ticked the boxes. Lovely area with little villages but only 10 mins from the town of Saintes with it's shops, restaurants and markets. Royan is only a 40 minute drive where the day can be spent on the lovely sandy beach.
The house itself was excellent with everything you need for your stay provided. All the rooms are good sizes and the beds very comfortable. The pool area was great during the day especially with it's shaded area to get away from the sun if need be and sitting on the covered terrace in the evening for dinner was amazing especially when the resident deer come wandering in to the garden.
Would I recommend this house? Definitely! Would I book again? Already have!

Fantastic well equipped large farmhouse.The best equipped gite we have ever stayed in.The swimming pool was large and having a toilet at the pool was v handy. Sheets and towels were changed weekly.Plenty of interesting places to visit and great local markets best ones in Saintes.Good local restaurant in next village.The owner was easily contactable and prompt at replying to any queries.I will be recommending this property to my friends and family and hopefully will return there ourselves.
