Le Martin-Pecheur is part of Beaumont holiday cottages which consists of a farmhouse dating from 1822 and 5 gites on a 10-acre site in the heart of the sunny Charente-Maritime.
There is plenty to see and do, with historic towns, like La Rochelle and Saintes, or lively seaside resorts, such as Royan all within about half an hours drive.
Rochefort, under 10 minutes away, is the nearest large town with a superb morning market, good shops, museums and historic buildings, many dating back to the 17th century when the town was founded as a defense against the British.
Smaller towns, for example the citadel of Brouage, as well as fascinating chateaux and the glorious beaches of the Cote Sauvage and the Ile d'Oléron are just as near - in fact our nearest beach is only about 6km away.
The area is a centre for bird-watching with several reserves within easy reach.
Large living room with U-shaped kitchen. Well equipped with electric cooker, dishwasher, washing machine, cafetière. The secluded terrace also has a dining table, chairs and a barbecue.
Comfortable sofas in front of the tv which has English and French reception, allowing you to enjoy some of the 600 plus videos and dvds
The gites have a large double bedroom with highly impressive exposed beams and a twin bedroom, both with far-reaching views over the fields.
The gites have bathroom with a shower over the bath and a wc.
The electric heaters are rarely needed but we provide a fan which is sometimes required in the warm summers. There is an open fireplace and we can provide logs if required
There is a selection of books in each gite and if none of these are to your taste we have well over 1,000 books of all types in our own library for you to enjoy. We also provide boardgames etc. The games barn has table tennis, table football and we can supply you with racquets and balls to use at the all-weather tennis court
The orchard has a large number of fruit trees (apples, pears, peaches, figs, mirabelles, red and yellow grapes, walnuts and almonds) as well as various herbs which you are welcome to enjoy in season. The large heated swimming pool is normally open from April until well into October and with rowing on the pond, fishing net in hand, it is a magnet for children of all ages
There is plenty of space for outdoor parking off the road
With a large farmhouse sleeping up to 12 and 5 gites sleeping from 4 to 6 each, we often have 3 generations holidaying together. Some of our customers have been here every year for the last 10 years! Please see our website to find out more about our customers reviews.
Visitors with laptops are able to use our wi-fi connection and those without are welcome to use our office computer if needed. We are also happy for customers to use our internet phone, which is free to landlines in the UK
Brouage is a wonderful historic Citadel, 5 kilometres from us and a must to vist either by car or even better by bicycle (bicycles available) through the marais, the small canals, full of wildlife. Take a walk round the ramparts followed by Moules frites at La Belle Epoque.
There are restaurants galore and shops full of jewellery, pottery and clothes. A must for presents for back home.
Rochefort 7km, has a market on Tuesdays , Thursdays and Saturdays. There is a wonderful fish hall with every type of fish imaginable. The vegetables, fruit and cheeses are really fresh.
All at Brouage 5km: La Belle Epoque, The Hotel Brouage, Restaurant St Denis are our favourites. There are many different types of restaurant in the big town of Rochefort. You can either sit in one of the cafes in the main square
or sample Chinese, Italian or traditional French. Our favourite is down by the harbour.
