The house is completely detached with very few neighbours. The garden is a good size and is not overlooked, with a field at the rear and a wood to the side. The south facing 50 m³ heated private swimming pool enjoys lots of sun; a separate shaded terrace offers the chance to stay cool when needed.
A barbecue area and summer kitchen are situated next to the pool terrace, so you won't have far to go for refreshments. Table tennis, pool, darts, books, boardgames and bikes will help you relax.
The house is 200 m² so there is loads of space. This house has everything you need and is a great venue for a family holiday. Full central heating makes this perfect for winter breaks.
The kitchen/diner has been completely renovated with fully-fitted units and all appliances. The walls are mostly exposed stone and the ceiling has large original oak beams. There is a large teak dining table, great for family meals, a large traditional fireplace and interesting period features you would expect in a building two centuries old.
There is a comfortable lounge separate from the kitchen/diner, with a large flat screen tv with UK channels. There is also a large study on the mezzanine that is ideal for reading, relaxing and playing family games.
The 3 large, tastefully decorated bedrooms, are all equipped with wardrobes, drawers and bedside cabinets. The en suite master overlooks the swimming pool and has a luxurious bathroom equipped with a roll-top bath, shower and wc, allowing you to have a relaxing soak in the bath while having a view of the garden. The 2nd bedroom has a large double bed, and the 3rd bedroom has 2 singles beds - these rooms share a large shower room and separate wc. A travel cot is available for those of you with babies. All the bed linen and towels are provided so no need for you to pack them and cleaning after your stay is included in the tariff.
All bathrooms have been fully renovated this year. The en suite has a free-standing roll-top bath, large shower enclosure, wc and washbasin. It is spacious, bright and has a large window overlooking the swimming pool. The shower room has a large, fully tiled shower enclosure with a washbasin. The separate wc is adjacent to the shower room.
There is full oil fired central heating with a radiator in every room and hallway, making this a good location for a long-term winter let.
Fuel is chargeable off-season.

The swimming pool is 50 cubic metres, heated between May and September. A modern pool side shower room with wc. makes your time by the pool even more enjoyable. A well equipped summer kitchen with fridge, sink, microwave, washing machine and tumbledryer is situated next to the pool terrace which makes it a great area for al fresco dining. The garden is mature with trees and bushes on the boundaries to ensure privacy. There is a field on one side and woodland on another, the house is not overlooked. Beach towels are supplied and there is plenty of pool furniture.
There is plenty of parking by the front door and back gate, next to the road, just outside the house.

This is a great base for a family holiday. The house is in a rural location, but only 10-15 mins away from Saintes, a major city with lots of shops and restaurants. There is plenty to do at home, but lots to keep you occupied in the surrounding area. There are lots of great restaurants close by if you don't fancy eating at home. Make sure not to miss out on experiencing the local markets. A day trip to the coast will enable you to taste the wonderful seafood on offer. You can cycle to the close by attraction of the River Charente in approx 10 mins, or practice your swing at the local driving range. Tennis is available in Saintes and St Savinien. There are 2 golf clubs within easy reach as well as a driving range.
We are a married couple in our 50's. Or house in France is a hobby which gives us the opportunity to visit France for a week or 10 days about 4 or 5 times a year. Our visits combine holiday time with making improvements to the house for the enjoyment of our guests.

A very attractive chateau, worth a visit.
The closest beach is at Royan, 30 miles away. This is great place for the family, with a huge sandy beach and literally dozens of restaurants with sea views and good value menu deals. Other beaches include Fouras and Ile de Re.
Bourdeaux is a very attractive city and good for a day trip. Bassin d'Archachon and the Dune de Pyla are closeby and should be seen.
You can visit Cognac and have a guided tour around the Hennessy distillery. It explains how the brandy is made and where the local drink of Pineau Charente comes from. You can turn up on the day, but it is better to book in advance to ensure you get a time that is good for you - the booking can be done online.
Futuroscope, or Parc du Futuroscope, is a French theme park based upon multimedia, cinematographic futorscope and audio-visual techniques. It has several 3D cinemas and a few 4D cinemas along with other attractions and shows, some of which are the only examples in the world.
There is a decent go-kart track on the outskirts of St Jean d'Angely which is good family fun.
The second biggest island in France after Corsica, the place offers a huge range of fish and seafood with the added bonus of vineyards.
Have a drive around the island and choose one of the many beaches. Visit the harbour of St Martin which has many good restaurants.
The historic coastal town of La Rochelle is nice and should be experienced. The harbour is really pretty and surrounded by restaurants - a good place to relax in the sun, people watch and eat and drink. There is also an aquarium.
Many towns in the area have market days. Saintes has a great one the first Monday of each month for clothes and general items. It runs all the way up the main street so there is plenty to see. If you want fish and other fresh local produce there is a market every day in Saintes depending on the product, with the 2 main days for fresh produce in the indoor and outdoor market area on a Wednesday (slightly smaller) and a Saturday (full scale) - these are both in the centre of Saintes beside the cathedral.
Restaurant du Gare 4km
A visit to Marennes is a must for oyster lovers. There are plenty of oyster farms where you just stop by the side of the road, buy your oysters and eat them straight away - you can't get fresher than this. You can buy a dozen top 'grade 0' oysters for less than 5 Euros and they open them for you.
Another great place to sample fantastic oysters at unbelievable prices is the fish market at St Jean d'Angely. Here, you sit down at tables outside the market, buy a big platter of oysters or other seafood, and the bar opposite will serve drinks and other accompaniments. This is a great experience on a warm summers day.
Saintes is only 10-15 minutes from the villa and has a wide range of restaurants in a town of this size. You would never need to eat in the same place twice.
A very nice town by the sea. There is a lot of history, including an old boat being reconstructed and a fort.
If you want to add a bit of culture to your visit to the area there are plenty of Roman ruins to see. Saintes has a Roman amphitheatre and Arch de Triomphe amongst others. The is also a paleosite that is well worth a visit.
Wine lovers will find this irresistible. Located close to Bordeaux, there is the opportunity to visit vineyards and sample the wines.
All the shops you need are located in the local historic town of Saintes.
This is a small, pretty town next to the river. There are small boats to hire and you can play ball or frisbee on the grass by the river.
Between Bordeaux and La Rochelle, a few dunes from Royan is an oasis of amazing encounters and discoveries with animals from all continents. A unique place where a love of animals was transformed into a Noah's Ark. Over 14 hectares of the most renowned zoo park in France and one of the most interesting in Europe.
This is a beautifully restored property in a rural setting which is quiet and tranquil. The villa is tastefully furnished with every possible amenity, spacious and uncluttered. Kitchen excellent - clean and modern, bathrooms likewise. The added bonus of good wifi and TV if needed. Outside seating and a choice of BBQ (gas or traditional). Two superb double bedrooms with a third (twin) on the lower ground floor and more suitable for children.
Although the site is rural there are shops within a short drive and a good selection of local restaurants. The owners provide a good information pack with plenty of suggestions which is current and has comments by other guests.
Extensive games rooms and a nice touch in that a 'welcome pack' of provisions awaited us on arrival. Owners were prompt in their communications and replies to queries prior to travel. Would happily return and recommend.

20 mins from local hypermarket and 40 mins to beach. Local baker about 4km (10 min drive) away but bread / patisserie was superb.
Excellent customer service from owners - quick repayment of deposit on return.
There is everything in the accommodation anyone would want.The owners have put in a lot of hard work for those that rent this property.
