This very spacious old characteristic farmhouse is designed on 2 floors with the 3 bedrooms on the first floor. At the front of the house there is a patio area with wooden garden table and chairs. La Vigne has access to both courtyards with a front and back entrance to the property. The bedrooms consist of one very spacious room with 4 single beds or the option of one superking and 2 singles making it a family room. Also on the same floor are 2 double rooms with king-size beds.. There are 2 bathrooms, one on the ground floor and one of the first floor.
The very spacious lounge has the original fireplace still there and plenty of comfortable seating for everyone. There is a flat screen television and dvd player which has access to normal Freeview programmes. The lounge leads into the kitchen/dining area which is fully fitted with all the necessary equipment (dishwasher, washing machine, cooker, fridge) to give you that home from home feeling.
This gite has an old country house kitchen with a combined dining area. The table seat for 8 people. There is gas hob, electric oven, and a large fridge with freezer compartment. There is also a dishwasher, washing machine, coffee-machine, toaster and all the all the crockery and cutlery that you may need during your stay. The kitchen has access to both courtyards of the property with the front entrance leading onto a patio area and the back entrance leads out to the hangar and the poolside courtyard. The second bathroom is located just off the kitchen.
There are 2 large sofas and 2 chairs in this very spacious lounge and with the large Victorian windows it is very light and airy. The original working fireplace creates a majestic centre piece for the room. A flat screen tv with dvd player has access to normal Freeview programmes. Tiled flooring. A small children's corner is set up with books and a little table for them to sit and enjoy playing with the supplied toys or colouring/drawing. There is also a selection of books for older children and adults. The stairs from the lounge lead up to the first floor where you will find the bedrooms and 1 bathroom.
Bedroom 1 - A very spacious room filled with character and some very impressive original wooden beams. This room is great for families with either the option of one super-king bed and 2 single beds or 4 single beds. The room has plenty of storage, wooden flooring, 2 windows including a skylight with blackout blind.
Bedroom 2 - There is one kingsize bed in this bright room with wooden flooring.
Bedroom 3 - There is one kingsize bed in this room with the original wooden beams adding the character . There is wooden flooring and 2 windows including a skylight with black out blind.
The first floor bathroom has a separate bath, shower cubicle, toilet and washbasin.
Just off the kitchen is the ground floor bathroom which has a shower, toilet and washbasin making it ideal to use after the pool or sunbathing.
A large selection of books and children toys are available in the gite or on request..
In the sheltered hangar there is a football table, swing ball and table tennis table.. A large selection of dvds are available to use on request.
Throughout certain months of the year we arrange for wine tastings with local suppliers giving you the ideal opportunity to sample some of the local produce.
Have you ever fancied a go at Scuba diving, well now is your chance. During the warmer months we have a qualified PADI instructor giving lessons to anyone from the age of 5 upwards. Its an ideal opportunity to try it out in a pool environment rather than the sea.....its a lot of fun for all ages.
On the covered front patio of this property you will find a wooden garden table and chairs along with a stone bbq.
The large heated salt water swimming pool is fenced & gated to ensure the safety of children. A large sun patio at the side of the pool offers you sunbeds and umbrellas.
In the grounds we have combined swing/slide comprising of 2 play frames one for the smaller children.
We also have a selection of bikes available to use as this is an ideal area to explore by bike, not too many hills just rolling countryside. La Vigne is set in 2 acres of walled grounds surrounded by fields of vines and crops including sunflowers during certain months
Les Vieilles Ombres is ideal for families - being situated in walled grounds offers the children a safe playing environment where they can explore nature, build a camp with bamboo sticks, play hide 'n' seek etc. We are ideally situated for those who just want to relax in the peace and quiet of the Charentaise countryside or for those who want to explore the area, there is something for everyone.
We have a bread lady that delivers everyday except Sunday/Monday. The local town of Matha is just a 4 minute drive and has a variety of shops. All gites are non-smoking.
Linen and towels provided except for beach/pool towels - these are available for hire.

|Unique benefits of property||We have a very tall walled garden which is fully safe for children to play in - We also have a heated pool. We are in a French village with tennis courts, Football pitches etc and only a short walk to Matha for wonderful restaurants, supermarkets and other shops.|
This can either be done in one of the well known Cognac Houses like Remy Martin or Martel or in one of the smaller local suppliers. All are more than willing to open their doors to you and discuss their products and let you sample a glass or two.
The town of La Rochelle is steeped in history and is well worth a visit. The Aquarium is fabulous and the children will love it; Visit one of their many museums or just wander through the cobbled streets exploring all the shops and the individual boutiques. Sit along the quayside in one of the many restaurants and enjoy some of the local specialities. Hop on a boat across to one of the islands like Ile D'Oléron or Ile d'Aix which is only accessible by boat and no cars are allowed here except for designated vehicles. Ile de Ré is accessible by a bridge not far from La Rochelle centre.
A town steeped in art & history. This beautiful town set on the River Charente was once the capital of the Roman province of Aquitaine in the 1st century. There are museums, superb churches and a Roman Amphitheatre that all should be on your 'to visit' list if you like history. Take a boat cruise along the Charente and enjoy some wonderful scenery. Wander through the shops or sample one of their many restaurants....a lovely day out.
One of the best zoos in Europe located near Royan and well worth a visit
