Part of an old farmhouse Le Cognac is a beautifully appointed gite with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It is a great gite that is ideal for families or even for couples who like a bit more space when away. It provides you with all the comforts of home to help make your stay an enjoyable one.
The kitchen/lounge/dining area is open plan in design with the original fireplace taking centrepiece in the kitchen. There is now a woodburner in there making this gite ideal for the cooler months also. The bedroom on the ground floor has a king sized bed and an en suite bathroom with walk-in shower. The bedroom on the first floor has 3 single beds - the bathroom also has a shower and toilet.

The open plan lounge has a 3 seater sofa and 2 comfortable chairs facing the flat screen television with English programmes - there is also a dvd player. The extendable dining table has seating for up to 5 people. There are a selection of books for all ages and lots of local tourist information for you to browse through.
Bedroom 1 - This spacious room has a metal framed king sized bed. With windows both end the room is both light and airy. There is wooden flooring, neutral coloured walls and splashes of colour coming from the soft furnishings. The walk-in bathroom is just off the bedroom.
Bedroom 2 - This room on the first floor has 3 single beds and is also en suite. Again there are 2 windows so the room is light. Neutral colourings throughout with wooden flooring.
There are shutters on both bedrooms.
There are 2 bathrooms in this gite, 1 on the ground floor and the other on the 2nd floor - they are both en suite with showers, toilets and wash basins.
Electric heating and woodburner.
Each gite has a selection of books for use.
In the sheltered hangar area you will find a football table, table tennis table and swing ball.
We also have a wide selection of dvds and games available for you to use throughout your stay.

There is a boules court at the far end of the gardens and in the sheltered hangar area you will find a football table, table tennis table and swing ball.
During certain months of the year we arrange for local wine producers to come to us and offer our guests a chance to try their products. Don't worry if you don't speak French we are on hand to translate! Have you ever fancied trying scuba diving? Well now could be your chance as we have a qualified PADI instructor giving lessons in the pool during the warmer months. Its a lot of fun for all ages.
Le Cognac is 1 of 5 gites set in 2 acres of walled grounds surrounded by fields of vines. There is a patio area with garden table/chairs and a stone bbq.
The salt water heated swimming pool is fenced/gated as required by French law. Overlooking the pool is a large sun patio where you can relax on a sunbed and enjoy the sunshine. Situated at the far end of the garden there is a combined swing, seesaw, slide and a trampoline with safety net. A game of the very popular boules ('Petanque' as the French call it) is a must on the boules pitch...many of our guests have set up matches with each other during their stay. Don't worry we can help with the rules and we have all the equipment that you may need. Just a couple of minutes walk from us is the village tennis court - again we have the equipment for you borrow. The hangar offers a great place for the kids to play and offers shade from the heat for everyone. We have a few bikes available for you, this is a great place to cycle around.
Les Vieilles Ombres is suitable for everybody including families with small children. For those who just want to relax in the peace and quiet of the Charentaise countryside then you can or should you wish for a holiday doing both then this is the perfect area to visit as there is plenty to do all around us.
We have cots, highchairs and stairgates available so please reserve these when you book.
We have a bread lady that delivers everyday except Sunday/Monday. The local town of Matha is just a 4 minute drive and has a variety of shops including a weekly market.
All gites are non-smoking.
Linen and towels are provided except for beach/pool towels - these can be hired from us.

|Unique benefits of property||We have a very tall walled garden which is fully safe for children to play in - We also have a heated pool. We are in a French village with tennis courts, Football pitches etc and only a short walk to Matha for wonderful restaurants, supermarkets and other shops.|
This can either be done in one of the well known Cognac Houses like Remy Martin or Martel or in one of the smaller local suppliers. All are more than willing to open their doors to you and discuss their products and let you sample a glass or two.
The town of La Rochelle is steeped in history and is well worth a visit. The Aquarium is fabulous and the children will love it; Visit one of their many museums or just wander through the cobbled streets exploring all the shops and the individual boutiques. Sit along the quayside in one of the many restaurants and enjoy some of the local specialities. Hop on a boat across to one of the islands like Ile D'Oléron or Ile d'Aix which is only accessible by boat and no cars are allowed here except for designated vehicles. Ile de Ré is accessible by a bridge not far from La Rochelle centre.
A town steeped in art & history. This beautiful town set on the River Charente was once the capital of the Roman province of Aquitaine in the 1st century. There are museums, superb churches and a Roman Amphitheatre that all should be on your 'to visit' list if you like history. Take a boat cruise along the Charente and enjoy some wonderful scenery. Wander through the shops or sample one of their many restaurants....a lovely day out.
