The nearest town where a small but lively market is held every Thursday and Sunday morning. The town provides all your basic requirements; Supermarket, banks, cash machines, restaurants and bars and a chemist. The tourist information office opposite the 12th Century church will provide you with all the additional help you may need for the area.
Your nearest village is a short drive away from your cottage which has a bar/restaurant for reasonably priced meals with local wines. There is a 10th Century Renaissance chateau with the River Boutonne running through it. On the outskirts of the village is a donkey sanctuary.
An old harbour town, together with its world famous aquarium. Relax in one of the countless cafés and restaurants which cluster around the waterfront or explore the boutiques which line the cobbled and arcaded streets of the old town.
An incredible landscape of canals winding through a natural setting with walking, horseriding, cycling, boating, fishing, birdwatching and restaurants
An interesting market town with markets twice a week, supermarkets, banks, chemist and restaurants and shops. The town also has a modern indoor swimming complex with the river nearby and a huge boating lake set in a lovely park with cafes, crazy golf and children's play area
Not as good as we had hoped for.
What was it you hoped for! - you have marked as a 10 for all categories!!
Nice and secluded cottage in a lovely area of France within easy distance to the west coast and La Rochelle. The property was clean and the owners were very helpful regarding places to see etc. Favourite days out were to the Ile de Re, La Rochelle and Green Venice. Visited Hermonie which was amazing and also went to Zoodessye which we enjoyed. I would recommend Meadowview Cottage for anyone wishing to have a relaxing holiday - no TV but good Wi-Fi connection. Good value for money holiday.
The setting and surrounding landscape are beautiful . The river which flows through the property is a stunning and a great place to sit and read in peace and quiet. Situated in the middle of a farming community the local area is lovely, with an ever changing view as the crops are harvested.
Local villages are quaint and varied and reflect the French approach to life; slow and easy.
You are close to larger coastal towns such as Rochefort and La Rochelle. An easy drive takes you to Aulnay which has markets Sunday and Thursday. Recommend the Chateau in the local village of Dam Pierre interesting architecture and the gardens are lovely.
Great place to go and relax and get away from a busy life. Car is essential or hire a bike in Dam Pierre 48 euros for the week and explore the surrounding countryside.
Hosts very welcoming and very approachable. Property great value for price.
Nice people, nice place but the open tread steep staircase could be difficult for some. Overall we had everything we required and more. A very nice couple.
