Didn't want to leave!
We had an excellent holiday. Really enjoyed it. The cottages are quaint and quirky, but perhaps a bit dark - to be expected in 16th Century buildings, and a god-send when it was hot. Brilliant pool and grounds. A bit of background traffic noise but nothing that bothered us.Have read all of Catherine Broughton's books which somehow added to the overall things. Most enjoyable.

We are just about to leave this wonderful venue. The gardens are a picture and the grounds perfect with private areas for the cottages and communal areas too. the cottages are wonderfully traditional and quaint. We will definitely be back. The whole experience has been spot on from booking through Sarah to friendly staff (Christine and Jacqueline) and even getting to meet the owner Catherine Broughton. Can not wait to read her book 'call from France' as apparently it tells the story of living here as a family. If you are reading this do yourself a favour and book a visit here! I'm glad we did!

Just returned from our first holiday in France. We have fallen in love with the country and especially the people who where always helpful and accomodating wherever we went, from the Charante to Paris and Normandy. We packed a lot into our 16 days and on reflexion the most tranquil and relaxing time was in our accomodation at Rochebonne. The chalet (no.7) was just perfect for us and we really liked the decor and the overall setting of the gardens, the pool was perfect and we made great use of it for two very hot days when we took a break from our touring around the Charante, we took in La Rochelle, Cognac, Saintes and the Royan areas. We also met a very pleasant and helpful English girl, possibly Catherine's daughter, who gave us some tips on the local area and Marennes. The weather was fine and dry in the mid twenty degrees celcius for most of our stay and was hot and 30 to 35 degrees Celsius for two days so overall no complaints, really enjoyed our experience at Rochebonne and were sad to leave for our onward trip to Paris. Hopefully we will return to France and will definately put Rochebonne top of our list. Thanks for everything, bon chance.

The Owner Recommends

Zoo, beaches, historic towns, Markets, sea food.

There are many beaches in the area including a giant lagoon ideal for kids and beaches with forest walks. Many cycle paths in the area, loads of sea food restaurants, markets in most towns and "brocante" markets most week ends. The area has many Roman and Napoleonic buildings and fortifications with a lot of history from the second world war. There is a neolithic site near the Roman town of Saintes and Cognac is a comfortable drive away. There is a very impresive zoo and several riding centres plus of course three golf courses not too far away.
