Gite accommodation with a difference - ideal for couples and year round holidays - with pool, log fires, an acre of garden, views across the valley and a unique “weatherproof” garden room/terrace. Quality assured : up to 50% returning guests !
A quality conversion of an old wine producing barn, the gite offers privacy, relaxation, views, a large 4 x 6 metre all weather and all year garden room/terrace, with full width, high quality sliding glass patio doors. We have an acre of garden, a 11 x 5m swimming pool (usually for sole use by yourselves!) and internally, all modern conveniences have been installed, but at a value for money price.
Located in the rolling Charente Maritime countryside, surrounded by vineyards, La Vieille Grange is within 10 minutes of the Gironde estuary (with nature reserve and new bird sanctuary) and quiet marinas. We are within 30 minutes of a nice beach, lots of lovely local places to visit and with easy access to the life of Bordeaux, La Rochelle or even onwards to Biarritz and Spain.
The gite is specifically designed around the needs of couples, or 2 friends. The owners, Martin and Christopher, take pride in welcoming and respecting the diversity of their guests, regardless of background.
One small well-behaved dog is welcome, but the gite is not suitable for children under 13.

An enormous (6x4 metre) all weather & all year round garden room/terrace with triple sliding patio doors, opening onto pool area and stunning views across garden and valley beyond.
If/when you need heating in the garden room, there is a logburner if you just want a quick bit of added warmth there is a stylish infrared gas radiator.
If it's a bit drizzly you can still relax and enjoy a good book (or an even better bottle of wine!) whilst enjoying the "being in the garden" feeling and gazing at the views across garden and valley to the village beyond!
And when it stops drizzling and warms up - just open up as much or as little of the patio doors as you want - opening up as much as 2/3rds of the room to the garden.
With a choice of furniture : easy chairs; wood steamer-style chairs or deckchairs. Plus dining table and chairs, coffee table and side tables.

(Pack includes : bottle of wine, olives, bread, croissants, milk, cheese, orange juice, tea, coffee, sugar, margarine, pasta & pesto sauce)
An abundance of up to date tourist maps, guides and leaflets - carefully organised to make it easy to find just what you want (yes, Chris IS that sad!)
Availability of an extensive dvd & video library (to accompany that late night bottle of wine perhaps?)
Wi-fi coverage is provided on request (subject to availability**) if you bring a wi-fi enabled laptop.
The gite information folder with details of everything from the latest weather forecast, times of local markets, list of dvds/videos available to borrow and information about how to use all the gites facilities - from the dishwasher to the underwater swimming pool floodlights!
Whilst the gite is attached to Chris and Martin's house, it is completely self contained and the terrace is divided to provide privacy. Your privacy is assured, in the words of previous guests: "Chris and Martin manage that delicate task (so easily!) of being unobtrusive and yet so friendly. We shall return"
The gite is well equipped with heating for the cooler months, with a Godin logburner in the living room and wall mounted electric radiators and convector heaters in all other rooms - including modern "chaleur douce" radiators for gentle and controllable background warmth.
We're ashamed to say that some of the internal doors, even on the ground floor, are too narrow for wheelchairs to get through. Otherwise, the ground floor facilities are quite accessible for people with mobility difficulties and we can provide a sofabed in the living room for people who cannot manage the stairs (subject to request at time of booking and availability).
For people with hearing disabilities, subtitles can be provided on the tv (dependent on specific programmes) upon request, and many dvds in the library have subtitles available.
A booking deposit of 25% of the rental is due upon booking, less £29 Brittany Ferries booking fee. The remaining payment is due 8 weeks before the start of your holiday or on booking if within 8 weeks, including: full payment of rental due (less any booking deposit already paid) plus £100 (€145) per booking breakages/excess cleaning deposit ("dépôt de garantie" under French law). This will be returned to you within 7 days after the end of your holiday, less any deductions for: breakages; excessive cleaning that is needed or gite telephone charges incurred. If you pay by credit card, we simply collect this with your final payment, and return it directly to your card within 7 days.

Outside we have a large 4 x 6 metre private garden room/terrace with triple, full width sliding patio doors (double glazed), equipped with choice of furniture: sofa, easy chair, teak steamer-style chairs and teak deckchairs plus dining table and chairs There is a woodburner and stylish gas radiator when needed all for the exclusive use of our guests.
Use of 11m x 5m swimming pool, depth approximately 1m x 4m at deep end. The pool is open from May to September and as far into October as the weather permits. There is under pool illumination at night for those nocturnal cocktails and star gazing on the terrace.
There is a garden of approximately 1 acre which includes a boules pit. The owners will share the facilities with the guests from time to time, but you will usually have the pool and pool garden to yourselves! There is also a bbq and 2 bikes.
Outdoor parking for 1 or 2 cars.
The gite has been designed principally to provide year-round, spacious and well equipped accommodation for 2 people. However, the additional mezzanine double bedroom is also available if you want to invite friends to join you. The accommodation is not suitable for children under 13.
