About the Owner, Mr William Davies

Year property purchased 2014
Why this location? The magnificence of the island (Ile de Ré), its wild coasts and its chic port villages, with easy access from La Rochelle/Ré airport (10 minutes) and fast train to Paris from La Rochelle 915 minutes). The variety of the villages on the island. The daily colourful markets (two in St Marie de Ré). The sound of church bells. The biking paths which criss cross the island. The fresh local produce, including local vegetables, seafood and oysters. The 'laid back' , slower pace of island life and the fresh sea air.
Unique benefits of property A luminous modern interieur, within an 18th century house, and which retains its Rétais style and charm. Bedrooms accessed on two separate staircases, providing privacy. The stylish 'media' room in the underground wine cellar. The sunny and enclosed private garden. The location of the house in the church square, close to vineyards and the sea, with shops, restaurants and a 'boulangerie' in walking/biking distance. A housekeeper who meets and greets guests.

We had an excellent few days in this delightful house set near the church in St Marie. It is extremely well appointed with everything you need to be comfortable.

We enjoyed pottering around the Ile de Re visiting the various villages, each of which has their own distinct character. We particularly like St Martin with its harbour although La Flotte runs it a close second. We drove to the lighthouse at the north end of the island which was an interesting visit, although there are a lot of steps to climb to the top.

We were there in October when everything was very quiet which suited us well but I suspect in the peak season everything would be very busy. The downside was not everything was open.

We certainly would like to return to the Ile de Re and would be happy to stay at the Maison de L'Ange again if it was available.

Really great place. as advertised. Everything you could think of in the kitchen!
Were greeted well and we hired bikes for the week. Not far for a stroll on the beach. Very relaxing place. I would heartily recommend, Garden area is small but that was ok for the 4 of us. 10/10. Enjoyed it so much we then followed this with a trip to Chateau Villars owned by the same people, Kevin & Bill, was not disappointed there either.
