One morning, over 12yrs ago, I said to my other half Phil, shall we move out of England? To my surprise, he instantly said yes, and here we both are, loving our life in France and we have never looked back! Our first property way back then, was an old school that we renovated into a small complex of four gites, which we ran successfully until we sold the property in 2013. This left us with a decision of 'what next'? Well, our 'what next' was 5 minutes around the corner from our old property!!
|Year property purchased||2014|
|Why this location?||When we saw the house and barn, (already called La Brise), we fell in love instantly. Not just with the property, but also the location. The Charente Maritime has a lovely climate, not too hot and not too cold, just right in our book! The house, although in a hamlet, doesn't feel isolated and we are surrounded by nature, which we love after living in a city in the UK. Our little piece of France is not too far from the coast which we make full use of and enjoy many a stroll along the promenade at our favourite beach in St George de Didonne. I often think we are a bit spoilt with where we live, if we want to have a day out to Bordeaux for example, we can, it's only an hour away! Our location is such that we can make the most of what the Charente Maritime has to offer and even after 10 yrs, we still haven't seen it all!|
|Unique benefits of property||Our petit gite 'La Brise' has been lovingly created in part of our attached barn and we hope to have achieved a 'home from home' feel with the finish and equipment. Our mantra if you like, is peace and tranquillity with no technology! From our years at our school property, our decision not to offer WIFI was two fold, firstly and more importantly, our guests, (some of whom have become friends), almost all said the same thing to us over a glass or two of wine..............''it was great not to have everyone glued to computer/phones etc and the family had more of a 'family time' holiday" also, being in the French countryside, the signal is a bit 'hit and miss' and very slow! A stay with us is definitely a holiday of rest and relaxation with the option of having a fun packed activity holiday for young and old alike!! Both Phil and I look forward welcoming you to La Brise and being part of creating fabulous holiday memories, a bientot!|
A fun packed day at a real castle!! Treasure hunts and pirates, maze, wooded park and small farm and only 10 mins from the gite in Pons.
Fabulous beaches, bars and restaurants can be found at both towns. Our favourite is St George de Didonne, but for the afternoon treat of 'Churros' then it has to be Royan and the harbour!
A fabulous day out for all the family or couples like us! Around an hour from the gite, a visit to La Rochelle is a must, not only for the Aquarium, but also to see the town and port. If you have the time, a jolly across the bridge to Ile de Re is also worth a visit!!
For the rare days when the sun doesn't come out to play, a visit to Les Antilles pool/fitness complex is great fun for all! Only 25 mins frim the gite, the pool is indoor/outdoor, with a wave machine and slides, geo thermally heated with a tropical feel! There is also a gym and beauty treatment rooms if the pool is not for you. Afterwards, relax with a light lunch or snack in the bar.
There are many Chateau nearby who have visits and tastings for Pineau, cognac and wine. Pineau which is a speciality of the region, is served chilled and is normally drunk as an aperitif'. The town of Cognac is only half an hour from the gite and here you will find all the main distilleries (Hennessey, Martell, etc) tours and tastings are usually available everyday, but for some tours, booking is required.
Pass a morning at the fabulous Zoo in La Palmyre, which is listed as the largest in Europe, then follow with a picnic on the beach for lunch. La Palmyre is lovely 'sea side' town with shops and restaurants and only 40 mins from the gite
