After busy careers in the NHS and National Grid, having spent 12 years holidaying throughout France, we fell in love with La Rose des Vents, on a rainy day in October. It was just the type of place we would have loved to stay on holiday. Our adventure has included renovating this beautiful former Cognac domaine, welcoming guests from all over the world, learning french, sampling great restaurants and exploring this beautiful region in our Morgan sports cars our other great love.

Manor Cottage is an idyllic home from home in the heart of the Charente. We were utterly bewitched and enchanted by our cottage and the beautiful and secluded garden.
Lyn and Graham were very gracious and welcoming hosts. They live on site and were always available (but never intrusive) if we needed advice or assistance. They provide lots of information about places to visit/restaurants. We had lunch on the last day of our holiday at the restaurant they recommended. The April sunshine was streaming down and we were dining on the terrace just yards from the River Charente. Glorious!
The cottage is very well and tastefully furnished. The lounge is spacious and supremely comfortable. Two of the three bedrooms have en suites, the bathroom for the third of the upstairs bedrooms is on the ground floor. All the associated shower/bathroom facilities are excellent. The kitchen is large and very well equipped.
The patio and terrace areas are prefect for sitting out, sipping a glass of wine and watching the lizards basking in the sun or listening to the nightingales. The heated pool is a very good size and immaculately maintained.
If you like classic cars you're in for a treat. Graham is a real enthusiast and the trip around the local vineyards in the late afternoon sun in the open topped tourer was absolutely superb.
Manor Cottage was everything we hoped for and quite a bit more as well. We had a wonderful holiday and would certainly return if the chance arose.
Anyone looking for a base from which to explore the Charente Marintime region of France by car, or just take it easy, should seriously consider La Rose des Vents, in the tiny village of La Tacherie, 15 minutes drive from Cognac.
This gated collection of three properties and other buildings, is run by owners Lyn and Graham, both motoring enthusiasts, with an in-depth knowledge of places to go and eateries. They even have a small fleet of Morgan sports cars for hire.
The properties, are very well appointed, well maintained and clean, and share a 12m swimming pool. And the owners go out of their way to make staying there a pleasure.
We had a fantastic week here. Lyn and Graham were really helpful and friendly. Manor Cottage is such a beautiful place to stay. It was spotless when we arrived and very homely, the photos don't do it justice. The pool is perfect, the house has everything and is in a very quiet village, perfect for switching off and relaxing.
