About this property

Luxury Converted Barn and Heated Swimming Pool. This cottage/gite is in a village setting.

La Rose des Vents is a former Cognac domaine, comprising 2 beautifully restored, luxury cottages, located discretely within the 2.5 acre grounds of the resident owners' 19th century Manor House.

On opposite sides of the grounds, each cottage offers total privacy and tranquility with private flower filled walled gardens and enjoy the use of the guests' 11 x 5.5 metre heated swimming pool set within the orchard.

Formerly the stables, Rose Cottage (sleeps 6/7 + cot) is our largest cottage, with 170m2 of luxury accommodation. With sky blue shutters, high beamed ceilings and reclaimed terracotta floors, it has a spacious sitting room with frenchdoors opening onto the wisteria shaded patio with lily pond on one side, and another set opening onto the walled garden, on the other.

Furnished in French country style and equipped with everything to ensure your comfort, including good wi-fi, it has been classified 4 stars by the French Tourist Office.

The spacious L shaped farmhouse kitchen diner is equipped for the keenest cooks, and has frenchdoors opening onto the large walled garden where you can enjoy a bbq or dine under the stars.

Also on the ground floor is a spacious double bedroom with a fully-tiled en suite shower room, and a large provencal tiled family bathroom.

An open tread staircase leads from the sitting room to an enormous romantic master bedroom with super king size bed and sitting area on the mezzanine. From here a door opens onto a large twin bedroom, ideal for younger family members.

Outside, windowsills hold cheery geraniums and the large walled garden planted with wisteria, hollyhocks and roses includes a gravelled sitting area furnished with a teak table, chairs and parasol, stone bbq and outdoor candle lights. The lawn is shaded by bay, pine and mock orange trees. Through a stone archway, you will find another terrace shaded by a wisteria, overlooking the lily pond, also furnished with table chairs and a bench seat.

Stroll along the shady butterfly walk to the monumental gates accessing the guests' heated swimming pool set within the orchard.

All guests receive a complimentary tour round the vineyards in a Morgan 4 seater sports car and a Charentais welcome pack and you can start your holiday with a candlelit 3 or 4 course dinner to be served in your cottage or in your garden under the stars - just pop the children to bed, then sit back and relax.

B & B mini breaks and organised classic car tours are also available.

La Rose des Vents is surrounded by vineyards and sunflowers in a sleepy hamlet, where all you hear is birdsong and the occasional tractor, but is just 5 minutes from the busy market town of Matha, 15 minutes from Cognac and within easy reach of the Atlantic beaches, La Rochelle and the chic Il de Re. You can take the ferry from Royan to the vineyards of the Medoc and for a city fix you can be in Bordeaux in 11/2 hours.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Lyn Peek

After busy careers in the NHS and National Grid, having spent 12 years holidaying throughout France, we fell in love with La Rose des Vents on a rainy day in October. Here we could see the potential to offer the type of holiday we would enjoy. Our adventure has included being adopted by 4 pusscats, learning French, making lots of friends, sampling great restaurants and exploring this beautiful region in our Morgan sports cars our other great love.

Why this location? We are surrounded by vineyards and sunflowers, in a sleepy little hamlet with just the sound of the nightingales and an occasional tractor to disturb the peace, but we are only 5 minutes from our busy local market town of Matha with it's supermarkets, restaurants and busy shops, 15 minutes from Cognac and within easy reach of the Atlantic beaches, La Rochelle and the chic Il de Re. For a city fix you can be in Bordeaux in an hour and a half by car and in Paris by TGV in two and a half hours.

We have the best of all worlds - within easy reach of golden sandy beaches, beautiful countryside and vibrant cities and towns and throughout the year there are festivals, fetes, music, markets, Brocantes and classic car events - including the famous Circuit des Remparts race meeting at Angouleme - just 40 minutes away.

There are Chateaux and Cognac Houses to visit, zoos, museums, and activities for the whole family.
Unique benefits of property We are not a gite complex - the spacious luxury cottages offer complete privacy and tranquility with their own private walled gardens within 2.5 acres of secure gated grounds. The 11 x 5.5 metre heated swimming pool for sole use of our guests is located in the orchard where guests can help themselves to the organic apples, pears, cherries, figs, damsons and plums.
