|Gites Les Grandes Ecures||Self Catering||Saturday||2||4||1||One cot, one z-bed|
The gite is set in a traditional Charentaise courtyard and has been lovingly renovated to provide comfortable modern accommodation whilst still retaining many of the original features. It is laid out on the first floor. There is also another gite available on the ground floor (ideal for those who do not want to deal with stairs), which would be great for families wishing to bring parents (grandparents) or 2 families wishing to holiday together as the gites are completely self contained but within the same building. The gite has an open plan living/dining room and kitchen, with 2 bedrooms one with a king size bed and the other one 2 single beds and a bathroom.
The gite benefits from beautiful thick stone walls which help keep the rooms cool in the summer, whilst retaining the heat in the winter. The hanger provides a great place to sit and eat anytime of the day (or just sit and relax) with that all important shade in the summer and the cars are parked in the courtyard the other side of the gites from the pool and garden so as not to interrupt the views or disturb your holiday.
The gites are children friendly and we have a cot, highchair and z-bed available if needed.
Bed and kitchen linen and towels are included (not for the swimming pool or beach).
Electricity included, except for heating for during the cooler months.
We live in the house on the other side of the courtyard from the gite and are there to provide you with any assistance you may need with your stay (ideas on places to visit or eat) or to leave you in peace to enjoy your relaxing holiday at Les Grandes Ecures.
In the kitchen there is a dishwasher, microwave, hob and oven (a washing machine, iron and ironing board are available in the communal pool room). The kitchen is supplied with the following to start your holiday. Tea, coffee, sugar, oil, salt, pepper, mixed herbs, cling film, tin foil, hand wash, washing liquid, paper towel, general cleaners, dish cloth, scourer and tea towels.
It has an open plan living/dining room and kitchen. There is a tv (with English channels), dvd player and mp3 dock. There is also a wood burner for the slightly colder evenings. Free wi-fi is available.
The gite has 2 bedrooms: one with a king size bed and the other one 2 single beds. Both have a wardrobe, chest of drawers and side tables. Egyptian cotton bed linen is provided and for stays of more then one week clean linen is provided each week.
The bathroom has a toilet, sink, shower and heated towel rail. For stays of more then one week clean towels are provided each week.
Outside there is a 10m x 5m (shared with the owners) salt water swimming pool which also benefits from a fully retractable cover (enabling you to use the pool even on those rare days when the sun is not shining) with sunloungers and pool toys, set in an acre of private garden with views of the beautiful countryside. The outside also has a covered eating area (the hanger) with 2 bbq's a food preparation area (with toilet and washing machine) and a collection of toys and games for all ages including table tennis and a trampoline. Also the magnificent Wickey Castle Camelot climbing frame, a wonderful wooden climbing frame with slide, rockwall, playhouse and towers connected by bridges. A great place for your children to play while you relax.
Off-road secure parking.
Great for families wishing to bring parents (grandparents) or 2 families wishing to holiday together as the gites are completely self contained but within the same building.
We are Kelly, Ian, our children Martha and twins Archie and Josie plus Rufus the dog. We have lived here since we bought the house and barns in 2006 and love the beautiful peaceful countryside, large spaces and the fact we were made welcome as soon as we opened the gates to move in. We have renovated the barns and house from top to bottom ourselves and have put all our love and care into making the gites and gardens a beautiful, relaxing place to holiday.

|Why this location?||We fell in love with the house and barns as soon as we saw them, and even on a cold January morning we could see how lovely they could be and what a great place Les Grandes Ecures is. Our gites have the benefit of feeling lovely and secluded on the edge of the hamlet with beautiful views of the sunflower fields and vineyards, but only 10 minutes away from Matha (our nearest town) or for more nightlife or shopping only 20 minutes from Cognac and 30 from Saintes.|

One of the most beautiful cities in the region it has the impressive harbour front, with livley marina and old harbour defenses which are surrounded by a wealth of restaurants and bars, perfect for watching the world go by. Behind the restaurants is a lovely shopping area with many cobbled arcaded streets. Also a point for many boat trips to Fort Boyard, Ile d’Aix and Ile d’Oleron, and home to a wonderful Aquarium.
Situated on a rocky promontory, surrounded by large boulevards - these stand above the original ramparts that protected the town, with more than 2km of the ramparts remaining intact. A great place to do some serious shopping with a lovely new shopping centre. For motoring enthusiasts it hosts one of the few remaining street rally’s every year in September when classic cars from all over the world come to race around the old town.
