(Excuse the picture, family wedding a few years ago!) We are an English family that moved from the UK permanently in July 2017! We had a full summer of bookings and have been lucky enough to get 5* (max) on all our reviews! Our son stayed back in the UK, he has his own place there while we made the move with our daughter, our labradoodle and our 3 cats! We have wanted to live in France for 15 years and are happy to have finally made the move and haven't looked back!
|Year property purchased||2016|
|Why this location?||We chose the Charente Maritime because it seems to have everything we want within easy access. We are rural but St Savinien is a 5 minute drive or 15 minute cycle away if we want to go for dinner, take a boat out for the day or just look around the shop and market. The coast is just 35 minutes away and if you want a surfing beach its 55 mins to the Atlantic ocean and a gorgeous beach. We have a zoo just an hour away, vineyards nearby, La Rochelle 50 mins away, Saintes 30 mins away. Our setting is rural, peaceful and everything we dreamed of. We have nearly 2 acres of land, a pool (open May-Sept), a small wood where children this year had great pleasure building dens and playing table tennis. When we saw the house and the gites we just knew instantly that it was perfect and it hasn't let us down!|
|Unique benefits of property||The Gite is fully self sufficient, it has a twin bedroom, a double bedroom and a double sofa bed in the lounge. It has an open plan lounge / kitchen / dining area. Dishwasher, gas oven and hob, fridge (with additional fridge-freezer in the utility room) washing machine in utility room, shower room and separate wc. It also has an outdoor covered terrace, perfect if you want a little privacy, this is fenced so if you have small children or a dog it will help you keep track of them and keep them safe. You are welcome to use the grounds and pool as you please (This is shared with the owners).
We have wi-fi available, you get 1GB per week and you can top up as you please if it runs out!
Friendly, well behaved dogs are welcome.
It is a beautiful setting for a break in the country!
Just in the local town, a great place for lunch or dinner. We would say that they have something to suit all and are very friendly and accommodating.
Cote Sauvage is a great beach for surfing, body boarding, on the Atlantic coast, white sand. It is in a conservation area with plenty of parking. You are able to park and then walk through the pine forest to the beach. Even in the summer it is not overcrowded and is a really pretty part of France.
A great place to visit on a rainy day! La Rochelle is beautiful anyway but if you want to take the children somewhere educational, take them to see the beautiful underwater world!
Set in the main marina of La Rochelle the food is fabulous! Our daughter loves it, it is her favourite restaurant out of everywhere we have been. It mainly serves fish and their Planche is delicious!
This is such a peaceful afternoon, hire one of their electric boats and take it down the Charente River taking in the views of the waterfront houses, the boats moored along the river and other boat users!
