We moved to France in 2003 after spending some years of our holidays renovating our main house. We then bought some land from a French friend and built the new one ourselves exclusively for family/holiday rentals just around the corner. It is set on the edge of fields at the end of a tiny road and is a peaceful hideaway but only approx 40 minutes from the Gironde Estuary and all its lovely beaches. We remain discreet but keep an 'open door' for queries, information, help, etc.
|Year property purchased||2015|
|Why this location?||Because it is rural and peaceful.|
|Unique benefits of property||Being overlooked by fields of sunflowers in the season, sharing freshly laid eggs from our free range chickens which are kept in an enclosure at one side of the garden separate from the house, together with tomatoes and other produce from our vegetable patch. The house is only 2 years old and is maintained and cleaned to the highest standards. We have received excellent reviews and a lovely selection of hand made cards from our guests' children.|
Very large Roman amphitheatre and other historical structures.
Huge indoor shopping centre plus external shops.
Very big Chinese self-serve restaurant.
The world's best brandy comes from here. Martell, Hennessy, Remy Martin etc have distilleries to visit here and conduct tours to explain the process.
A medieval town full of interesting buildings including the 'Donjon' (a towering dungeon) which you can climb up to the top for a 360 degree view of the area.
Several restaurants, bars and shops.
Saturday morning market for fresh vegetables, fruit, fish, etc.
Drive to the Gironde estuary approx 35 minutes away and take your pick from 5 beautiful soft sandy beaches (non shelving) at Meschers, then along to St George de Didonne which has many beach activities in the summer, plus a pretty town square with bars/restaurants/shops, then on to Royan with its enormous beach, children's fun fare rides, restaurants, bars and shops.
Street vegetable/fruit market every Friday morning.
Every 3rd Friday in the month there is a large brocante/market.
