|Garden Cottage||Self Catering||Flexible||2||4||1|
We created the cottage from buildings that were at one time the laundry and farm managers cottage. We have kept the character of the building whilst making it entirely new inside. The stable door opens into a good-sized living room with kitchen and dining areas and dining area. It’s very pretty and keeps cool in the summer sun.
The cottage has its own wi-fi which is of a really good speed.
The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you may need to prepare and eat meals. The floors are of handmade terracotta tiles and local stone. The open plan downstairs leads into a good sized shower room and wc. Here you will find the washing machine and a second door which opens out onto the swimming pool and the private garden beyond.
The house is equipped with everything needed by a family with young children. We have 2 highchairs, 2 travelcots, babybath, changing mats and children’s toys.
A spiral staircase leads to the first, double bedroom, with twin aspect windows looking over the gardens and the pool and a velux window in the roman-tiled roof. The windows all have shutters and the velux a blind. A door leads to the second bedroom, whose window looks out onto a creeper-clad roof, and which also has a velux in the ceiling. These are both floored in light, modern wood, and feature the original beams.
The garden is our pride and joy it is full of colour even in the hottest seasons and is a wonderfully relaxing place to be.
The property has its own water heating system with a good size tank which is on the whole time so lots of hot water.
The cottage is equipped with smoke alarms and fire extinguisher and fire blanket. The cottage is very secure and there is private off road parking behind the cottage garden gates.
We have been letting our cottage for 10 years now and have had some excellent reviews this is our first year with Holiday France Direct so there are none on this website. We will be happy to provide you with the reviews if you wish to see them.
These are combined in one large, airy living space.
The kitchen is well-equipped for all your likely needs (after 10 years' holiday letting we can say that confidently!), gas hob electric oven, microwave and a fridge freezer. The cottage has a pine dining table and 6 matching chairs. We also provide everything you will need for pretty table settings both inside and outdoor dining.
We have as much crockery as you could need plus plastic cups bowls and plates for our much younger guests. There are cupboards for food storage.
The living area has a carpet and seating for 4, a comfortable rattan sofa and 2 chairs with colourful cushions. There is a tv monitor and dvd player plus a dvd library with some of the latest children’s films. There are books which you may exchange and many boardgames. There are wall and side lights. There are also 2 radiators shelves and tables.
One double bedroom, with double bed ,chairs, bed side tables, one with draws, and a chest of drawers. There are 2 windows overlooking the garden both with shutters and the larger one with pretty ironwork. There is also a velux window.
The door to the second bedroom leads of the first, it contains 2 good size single beds, there is hanging space for clothes 2 bedside cabinets one with drawers. There is a second tv and dvd player chairs and a table.
One shower room with wc and sink unit with cupboards for iron and laundry equipment. The shower has high water pressure. There is high shelving for cleaning products a heated towel rail and a top loader washing machine.

Situated in a large well-maintained and pretty garden, with your own private area to yourselves, which is fairly secluded. Shared use of pool means it’s normally just my husband and I who will be sharing with you (this system has worked perfectly for a decade, so we know it makes sense!) The pool can be accessed from the back door of the cottage and is covered by a child safe rigid cover. It has recently had a new heating system added.
The garden has loungers, a garden dining table, 4 chairs and parasols. We supply a large charcoal barbecue.
Easy, safe, free parking just outside the property.
Especially good for young families (2 adults and 2 children), though we've hosted happy couples of all sorts of ages and families with older children. Dogs are allowed by special arrangement...more likely out of season or the tail end (pardon the pun) of season - not least because it can get hot, and many beaches don't allow dogs in height of summer.
There are countless activities to be had nearby including off road cycling, kayaking, sailing, surfing and bird watching......
Our home in Chenac has been part of our family life for 28 years now. We have 4 grown up children and in the last 6 years we have been lucky to have 8 grandchildren. My husband Henry works in tv and I was a teacher, we met at University. We have lovingly restored our house over the years and on my retirement we decided to restore the garden cottage as a new project. Our interests as a couple are sailing/travel/wine/gastronomy/cycling/books and walking. We have loved meeting our cottage guests.

Beautiful countryside and the nearby historic cities of Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Saintes and Cognac as well as the seaside towns of St George de Diddone, Royan and St Palais.|
|Unique benefits of property||Entirely self-contained cottage in grounds of our house... totally enclosed garden so very child-friendly... English owners close enough to help but separate enough for complete privacy... old building sympathetically modernised with young 21st century families in mind... pretty garden with private secluded area for guests... very close to coast and beaches but totally untouristy....|

Henry and Philippa’s Garden Cottage is a perfect place to holiday from for the Pineau region. Set in Chenac-Saint-Seurin-d’Uzet it is surrounded by grape vines and sunflower fields for miles and miles. The cottage itself has everything you need and the pool is fantastic for cooling off after a hot day in the European sun. There is a local boulangerie in the next village which sells all your local staples and is close to the Super U at Gémozac for a proper shop.
There are various historical sites near by such as Talmont and Montang-Sue-Gironde but also numerous fantastic beaches at Saint-George-De-Didone, Royan and Vaux-sur-Mer. Royan is the nearest large seaside town and doesn’t fail to deliver, unlike so many British seaside tourist towns do.
Both Bordeaux and La Rochell are within an hour and half on the payage and are both beautiful cities worth travelling to in the region.
The most helpful thing about our stay was Henry and Philippa’s local knowledge, if you want to do something or see something, you’ve only to ask and they will know somewhere that will cater for your needs. After so many years in the region, they really are you local travel experts, if you want them to be.
Nothing is too much trouble for your hosts and they are adept at handling the less obvious yet ridiculous questions about being in France etc...
We will, depending on life plans for 2019 be going back for another 10 days next year and would have no issues recommending a stay.
We had an amazing stay at this Gite. The hosts Phillipa and Henry are amazing. We were welcomed for drinks our 2 young boys played with their family and loved their cat. The local area is beautiful with amazing beaches and fields of sunflowers. Although there is no shop in the village there is the added bonus of a tennis court and three local donkeys to feed. There is also a great local pop up bar. The swimming pool was a treat on very hot days and there is lots to explore locally. Thanks so much.
Phillipa and Henry were the perfect hosts. There if you needed them, but they also respected our privacy.
Communication was very very good, emails with questions were answered almost by return !
We found the Gite to be a quiet, secluded retreat for a relaxing break. The pool was wonderfull, clean and well maintained. (Henry even apologised for a few leaves that had blown in after an overnight thunderstorm)
The gite was very cool in 30 plus degrees but if you wanted the sun, there was always a place in the lovely garden you could top up your tan on one of the very comfy loungers that were provided.
We ate in the garden when we cooked for ourselves, under the sun umbrella over the table
There are no immediate faciliies within walking distance, but we found shops, bars and restraunts less than a five a five min drive away
We arrived with no barbeque coal but Phillipa kindly gave us some of theirs.
The Gite is VERY WELL EQUIPPED and incredibly homely with everything for a great break ( even down to 100's of DVD's.)
Plus the wifi worked fine.
We were treated like old friends from the moment we arrived, (even Bijou, the 18 year old "kitten" came to say hello and called most days to check up on us!!)
Parking was off road and safe, I loved the fact that our car was in the shade whatever the time.
Have absolutely no hesitation in recomending Garden Cottage whatsoever.
Thank you Geoff it was a pleasure to have you and Viv to stay .
