We are a French couple, tired of the busy life in big cities, we moved to the calm of the countryside in 2010. We first choose Charente Maritime as a compromise, sunny, easy to reach, near the ocean... But we soon fell in love with this area. After all these years, we still discovering so beautiful things here. We are now charentese for life!
|Year property purchased||2010|
|Why this location?||Charente Maritime is the sunniest area of the Atlantic coast.
The coast is wonderful for everyone, there are family friendly sandy beaches near the estuary with calm waves, spots for surf and watersports near La Palmyre, wild beaches for those who want to feel alone in the world...
The Saintonge (south of Charente Maritime) is extremely rich with historic sites, from prehistoric caves to Roman remains, medieval and romantic churches, houses and castles...
It is easy to reach, far closest than Pays Basque or the Riviera for travelers from the UK, Germany, Belgium, Paris, etc.
|Unique benefits of property||Near Gemozac, between Saintes and Royan, set in a property of three acres, Beaurepaire is an old 17th century farmhouse tastefully renovated to accommodate two spacious and comfortable gites and two b&b rooms.
The buildings have been restored to accommodate all modern comforts, respecting their centuries-old stones and their rural environment. Surrounded by vineyards, just outside the peaceful village of Saint Simon Pellouailles, Beaurepaire is a little piece of quiet countryside.
Our swimming pool is very large (12m wide) and secured for children.
Our situation is ideal to visit all the area. Sandy beaches and historic sites are within 30 minutes. With the A10 motorway just 10 minutes away, you can reach Bordeaux and La Rochelle in less than one hour.
Famous throughout Europe for its great beaches and conches (bands of sand surrounded by rocks that protect them from wind), Royan has always been the resort of choice. Although located after the mouth of the estuary of the Gironde, Royan and its neighbor Saint-Palais-sur-Mer are still protected from the tumultuous waves of the ocean. Record holder of sunshine on the Atlantic coast, Royan offers beautiful beaches with very fine and soft sand. Ninety thousand visitors a year make no mistake, Royan is a paradise for lovers of the sea.
Saint Georges de Didonne
The longest beach on the Côte de Beauté: Four miles of sand and waves at height of children... What more to say? Saint George is the perfect place to enjoy the sea with all the family. The entire village is at the service of tourists that are sure to find here everything they would expect from a seaside resort.
20 km east of Beaurepaire, on a rocky promontory overlooking the Gironde estuary, Talmont, is ranked among the most beautiful villages in France. This bastide was built in 1284 by Edward I of Aquitaine (King of England). Dominating the village, the magnificent Sainte-Radegonde church, symbol of the Poitou-Charentes region, is still fortified with ramparts. In the village, houses with white facades and blue shutters are revealed behind the hollyhocks. Talmont is visited on foot, its little flowery streets are animated by stalls of artists, craftsmen, tea rooms, sellers of regional products...
La Palmyre zoo
It is the most visited attraction in the department is the zoo amongst the pine forests near to Royan, with more than 1600 animals, many roaming free. There are few better in the world!
