Chez Dornat is a fabulous renovated large Charentais farm house built in 1890 and is full of charm and traditional features and is set in the heart of the countryside outside surrounded by fields of sun flowers and corn and hill sides full of vineyards. The house is set outside the ancient hilltop village of Fontaine Chalendray , so is the ideal spot to relax and unwind.
The star gazing is amazing the skies are so clear.

The property can comfortably sleep up to 14 in 6 bedrooms.
Linen and Gas are included electricity is charged according to consumption at the local rate by EDF



Kitchen and dining

The kitchen features a fantastic large handmade kitchen made by a local carpenter, with a granite and beech work tops, it is fully equipped with washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, fridges, freezer etc, etc and a large Range cooker.
There is a large farmhouse table for family meals and spending time around together, as well as a beautiful fire place with a wood burner.

Living rooms

There is a large light and airy lounge with a pretty fireplace and comfortable seating and a TV and DVD player with UK free view as well.
The furniture has a lovely old french feel to it, where there is a library and a collection of dvd and board games to have fun.


There is large and airy double bedroom on the ground floor that looks over the front garden with a quiet aspect.
The second double bedroom on the ground floor has an en-suite bathroom and has been tastefully decorated with an old french bed and side tables.
Also on the ground floor there is a family bathroom with a bath and shower above with wash basin and toilet.

Finally on the ground floor there is a large twin bedded room that also looks out onto the front garden.
Upstairs there are a further three bedrooms, all overlooking the swimming pool area and fields beyond.
The first is the master double which is a lovely large double bedroom , tastefully furnished and a lovely sunny outlook with plenty of room for a cot also if need be. It has a large en-suite with shower, loo and wash basin.
There are two further bedrooms, one is a large quadruple room with four separate good size single beds and the other is a smaller twin room with full size bunk beds.


There is a family bathroom on the ground floor with a bath and shower and there is also an en-suite bathroom in the down stairs double bedroom.
Upstairs there is a further very large en-suite bathroom with a shower toilet and basin.

There is a bespoke converted games barn with a full size ping pong table, a pool table, a baby football table and air hockey, also there is a huge garden of approx 6000 m² as part of the grounds of the property for playing all sorts of sports on.
there is wi-fi and tv and dvd player with a selection of dvd and a very large library while away the hours.
we also provide family board games and cards.

Garden and outside

To the outside there is a small courtyard area to the side from the back door and a private garden to the front of the property via the front door and a gateway leading into the huge walled secure swimming pool and outside eating and bbq area which has far reaching views across the fields of sun flowers and wheat , this whole area is walled and gated for security for the little ones!
There is a lovely stone BBQ on the patio also for those “al fresco” evenings a large patio area with tables and chairs and an open cabin area to shade in when it gets to hot!!
The private swimming pool which is flooded with sunlight all day, it is 12 meters long and 5 meters wide and it has a large terrace area to the side and is a great sun trap with a mixture of sun loungers and seating.
It is exclusively for clients renting this property and has shallow steps for the young ones and is approx 180cm deep at the deepest, and again looks out onto the beautiful rolling countryside

There is a gravelled parking area with space of up to three cars for this property,
also you can drive to the entrance of the property to load and unload your car

Why this location? I have been asked what is it like living in paradise such are the comment of our guests who stay here,the sleepy hilltop village of Fontaine Chalendray is peacefull and the perfect place to unwind. There are far reaching views of the surounding countryside many hours of sunshine and within a short distance there are lakes chateau and forests too explore.
We are surouned by beautiful old towns with fantastic architecture and long lazy rivers running through them.
The star gazing here is amazing august is traditionally the month of the stars the skys are so clear, if you see a shooting star make a wish
The coastal areas also have lots to offer visitors to the region with lovely beaches La Rochelle and the islands off of the coast to explore as well.
Unique benefits of property This lovely old charentaise Farmhouse with its blue shutters and lovely sandstone walls, which keep it cool in the long hot summers, has large spacious rooms that overlook the garden and pool. There is a beautiful bespoke kitchen and dining area with plenty of space for everyone.
The house was renovated in 2005 but we have maintained its french charm where possible.
The gardens have olive trees and boarders of roses and flowers that suround the house and pool.
The pool has a walled garden and is alarmed for safety with an undercover area to eat in the shade during the hotter parts of the day.
There is also a fully equipped games barn for fun with your friends and family with a fitness area as well.

The costal town of La Rochelle has many things to offer visitors, a huge choice of restaurants, bars and cafes to relax in. The beautiful architecture makes this a really wonderful town to explore and has a great choice of shops and street markets as well as a marina and sea trips to visit the local coastline.
You could also seek out Ernests ice cream parlour for the best choice of icecream in the region all home made of course

Dampeirre Chateau

This wonderful old chateau has been lovingly restored to it's former beauty due to a fire over a decade ago, the gardens are also pretty to explore.
The village of Dampeirre-sur-boutonne has a restaurent and a bar also and is only a 20 miniute drive from the farmhouse.

des Gours Lake

The lake of Des Gours has a sandy beach and swimming area within a lovely country setting, there are plenty of picnic areas a play park for the children as well as a cafe which is open all summer.
This is all only a 10 kilometer drive from the house

Sunday market

The Sunday market at Aulnay is a lovely start to the day it has lots of local produce on offer and the bars and cafes around the square are open for coffee or something stronger.
