About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Sue Bartholomew

Glenn and I (Sue) bought this back in 2015, initially we wanted a holiday home and really love this part of France, we started with doing up the first cottage and now it's finished we can't wait to start the next project. We travel back and forth to France, hopefully intend moving out in a couple more years. The kids love the swimming pool and the dogs love the woodland.

Year property purchased 2015
Why this location? We loved the scenery, the peace and quiet, never get tired of seeing all the fields with their different crops, my favourite is the sunflowers. We are close to the villages of Aulnay and Matha with Saint Jean d'Angely only 10 minutes drive. The seaside is less than an hour away, lots of lovely beaches all along the coast.
Unique benefits of property The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen, a newly renovated shower room, it's peaceful and quiet, there is a large garden to play games of badminton, the swimming pool lies just behind the cottage with plenty of outdoor seating.

Driving through the vast countryside into the hamlet was breathtaking only to receive a lovely welcome from Glenn and Sue. La Maisonette is nestled in the grounds where once stood an 18th century farm and is bustling with character, history seeping from every room.

Lovingly and sympathetically restored, Glenn and Sue have worked hard to provide everything a visitor needs or wants making their stay a pleasurable and memorable one. From the private courtyard or access to over an acre of grounds and a beautiful walled pool area you could explore the local are or just sit, relax and take in the suns rays in comfort.

Fancy a walk? there are miles of paths and quiet country roads to wander sharing your time with the wildlife that roams through the fields and skies. I was lucky enough to see wild deer wandering through the trees.

So much to see if you fancy taking a drive, explore Cognac, stroll down the rivers edge and taste the famous brandy from Hennessy, Martell, Otard, Camus and Remy Martin or visit La Rochelle marvelling at the medieval houses in this coastal city.

Our stay in La Maisonette was made all the more memorable when we could come home to a sun kissed pool and hear the birdsong all around us. Thank you Glenn and Sue for letting us stay in your lovely house.

My husband and I stayed at La Maisonette with our toddler from August 5th to 12th 2018. We thoroughly enjoyed the week at this beautiful cottage. It was exactly as described on the website and from photographs. The cottage was well equipped: full kitchen, gas hob, oven, lots of cutlery, cooking pans, utensils, plates etc. Very clean and comfortable. The bathroom has plenty of hot water and a comfortable shower. Lovely pool to enjoy in the hot weather. Sue and Glen are wonderful hosts. They're extremely friendly, very happy to help if there is any problem. Open to any questions and have lots of detail and information about the area. La Maisonette is an ideal spot to base yourself for day trips and exploring Charente. Rochefort, Fouras and La Rochelle are all within easy reach. We would happily come back to La Maisonette again.

Owner response

Thank you for the review, so pleased you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again.
Kindest regards,
Glenn and Sue

Beautiful house in a lovely location. Stayed here with some friends the first week of July and couldn't of been happier.

Fantastic facilities that includes a brilliant pool and bbq area.

The hosts were really accommodating and couldn't do any more to make our stay fantastic.

Despite being in the countryside, local villages/towns and supermarkets were only a short drive.

La Rochelle and Royan were only around an hour away as well.

Would highly recommend.
