We moved from the Isle of Wight to this beautiful part of France after visiting the area for several years.
We have built 2 lovely studio gites each sleeping 2 people on each end of our beautiful Charentais farmhouse.
We live here permanently with our 2 small dogs.
Our little hamlet of Vaufraiche is just 7 minutes drive from the picturesque riverside town of St Savinien (population 3500) with its bars, restaurants and weekly market.
|Year property purchased||2016|
|Why this location?||We chose this location not least because of the micro climate that the Charente Maritime enjoys. We are also within half a days drive of the Channel ferry ports and only 45 minutes drive from La Rochelle airport.
There are so many things to see and do within the region - the world famous Marennes oyster beds, Cognac and Saintes with their wonderful Roman architecture and history (not to mention the wine and cognac producers!), the stunning beaches and the maritime towns of Rochefort and La Rochelle.
St Savinien Sur Charente is a picturesque town on the Charente river with art galleries, restaurants, bars, 3 excellent boulangeries, a little cinema and a church, part of which dates back to the 12th Century.
|Unique benefits of property||We are in an idyllic peaceful location surrounded by open countryside, although only a short drive from all local amenities. We are pet friendly with lots of land for exercise!
Each gte is self contained with washing machine, fridge, electric fan oven and hob. They are small and compact with emphasis on outdoor living to make full use of the pool and garden ( both shared by us).
Held on the first Monday of each month, Saintes market stretches through the centre of the town and continues over the bridge to the other side of the river.
An excellent Aquarium with emphasis on conservation. Plenty to see and a rooftop restaurant looking over the old port of La Rochelle
Small pleasure boats for hire to explore the beautiful Charente river between St Savinien, Port D'Envaux and Taillebourg
The Best Getaway I have had in a long time, our hosts Lynsey and Shaun were fantastic and so accommodating. From when we arrived until we left we were made to feel part of the family . Our Yorkie Minnie Mee made a boyfriend of their Jack Russel Doogle and she made friends with Poppy.
The Gite was well equipped and in such a beautiful setting, the pool was a god send as the temperatures soared during the heatwave.
They went out of their way to help us find the local attractions and sites.I couldn't recommend them enough, I think we made some friends for life.
If you want to get away from the hussle and bussle then I would recommend staying at the gites.
The choir of the birds in the morning and the produce from their garden , all I can say is WOW!
Rating 15 out of 10 and such good value for money.
Thank you onces again Lynsey and Shaun, the holiday spent with you was the best we have had in a long time...
Paula, Andrew and Minnie, thank you so much for your comments. We loved welcoming you to our home and we’re so pleased you loved it as much as we do.
We look forward to seeing you both again in the not too distant future
Lynsey, Shaun, Poppy and Douglas ????
