We finally achieved our goal of moving to France in 2015. After many years of dreaming the time was right for us to leave the busy south east of England and set up home here in our favourite region of France.

|Why this location?||We chose this property after an extensive search, it has that je ne sais quoi that we were looking for. The location is idyllic and charming, quiet, peaceful and secluded yet not isolated from the rest of the hamlet or the nearby villages. The magnificent beaches are within a 35 minute drive. A beautiful golf course just 10 minutes away, the river Charente for swimming or kayaking is a stroll away, all add to the draw of this fantastic area. Oh and did I mention the sunshine!|
|Unique benefits of property||The beautiful 18th century cottage and main house built from local Charentaise stone have so much character, set in large mature gardens .
The Cranes that nest in the nearby trees, the deer in the fields , the river and the serenity of our surroundings help to make you feel relaxed from the moment you arrive.
You have your privacy, but also the reassurance that we are on site should you need us.
The Bernard Palissay is a river cruise from Saintes to Chaniers which includes a lovely lunch in an old water mill.
A sculpture park in our village of Port d’Envaux where sculptors come from all over the world every summer to sculpt with the famous charentaise stone. You can watch them work, walk round the park and see the amazing sculptures or book a lesson and have a go yourself.
Saintes is a beautiful ancient market town situated on the river Charente, it has a cathedral an impressive amphitheatre, it’s own L’Arc de Triomphe, markets most days, and many shops and restaurants.
Throughout the summer months the towns public gardens hosts numerous free musical concerts.
A lovely restaurant in Port d’Envaux excellent French cuisine and a perfect riverside setting, just 5 minutes from the gite.
An excellent restaurant in Saintes overlooking the river it has a roof terrace with lovely views a friendly service and a varied menu.
This is my favourite beach, beautiful golden sands, it is family friendly with lifeguards quieter than Royan with a lovely quaint feel to the village.
This château is definitely worth a visit, you can take a guided tour or explore yourself, the gardens are stunning, the children can play ancient wooden boardgames, or you can walk through the forest to see the prehistoric caves. There is a picnic area and a café.
The gite is very well maintained and fully equipped, so far it is the best we have stayed in. It's situation is peaceful, surrounded by woods and only a short stroll down a pathway to the River Charante. The gite itself is on one level so accessible for people with mobility issues but a car is required to get to the local villages. It is ideally located and a reasonable drive away from La Rochelle, Rochefort and Cognac etc.
The owners are very friendly and helpful and have provided a comprehensive folder with information of all the local sights and places to visit. There was also a welcome hamper, which was a lovely surprise.
There are a couple of very good local restaurants and with Saintes only being a short drive away there is a huge choice of eateries and lots of shopping. I would most certainly recommend to friends and family.
Thank you for your great review, it is very much appreciated and good to know that all the hard work involved in creating the gîte has been worth it.
You were lovely guests and it was very much appreciated how clean and tidy you left the gîte.
It would be a pleasure to welcome you back in the future.
