My wife Nicci and I, Simon, have 4 children, 3 of whom have left home now, having been educated for most of their lives here in France. We have one daughter who still lives with us. We did as many English have done, decided that we both worked too many hours in England and never had any time to spend any quality time with our family. We sold up and moved to this beautiful part of France, and have never looked back since. Having lived here now for 14 years we have a great knowledge of this area.

|Why this location?||We chose Surgeres as we wanted to live in a small town that had all the facilities, schools for our children, supermarkets, bars, restaurants and sports facilities. In the summer it is a bonus to be out of, but not far away from, La Rochelle. We also wanted to be close to the beautiful beaches and the many tourist attractions here.|
|Unique benefits of property||5 renovated 2,3 and 4 bedroom gites situated near the historic market town of Surgères, 29 kilometres from La Rochelle.
The gites offers a full range of facilities including a large child safe & heated swimming pool, covered play and entertainment area. Peaceful surroundings yet a stone's throw from all the facilities of Surgères.
The gites are available to rent individually or for groups accomodating up to 32 people. Families can enjoy their privacy on their own sunny patios or make friends around the pool. We have found through experience that happy children playing together make relaxed parents!
Ideal for all year round use as they are centrally heated and have woodburners for cosy winter evenings.
Also Le Colombier Gîtes are the perfect venue for any group party event or wedding.
Surgères: famed for its historic walled castle and its traditional farmers market 3 times a week. It offers a range of excellent child-friendly bars & restaurants, as well as a cinema, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, a skate park and a pretty park which surrounds the château with a good children's play area. There are marked cycle paths which start from the gites and offer a pleasant way of discovering the town and surrounding villages.
Near us there are many beaches to visit. The closest is Chatelaillon Plage, about 25 minutes drive. It has a long sandy beach with all the facilities. It is very safe for children and is kept beautifully clean. There are many bars and restaurants along the beach to grab a refreshment or have a leisurely meal. For nightlife, there is a casino which has a large outdoor area. Musical performances, a weekly night market and the long pretty promenade make the seafront a wonderful place to visit. There is also a waterpark with slides, sunbathing and spa area.
There are also the stunning Iles de Ré and Oléron, islands that can only be accessed by a bridge. They have fantastic vast sandy beaches and are ideal for bodyboarding and surfing on the west side, and provide peaceful beaches and childfriendly settings on the east side. The villages on the islands are whitewashed and have a dreamlike quality; a photographers paradise! L’île d’Aix is well worth a visit. Going there by boat is an experience in itself. The village is beautiful (virtually no cars). Why not hire bikes or take your own to explore the many coves and historic monuments.
Palmyre Zoo is a great day out for families, as well as Futuroscope and Puy du Fou - all within an hour and half drive.
You can enjoy a great family dayout punting or boating on the canals of the Venice Verte 20 minutes away.
La Rochelle - a picturesque lively town that is the highlight of any stay here
Fishing, golf, watersports, cycling, walking, go karting, adventure park are all on hand.
