|Maison Vingt||Self Catering||Saturday||5||10||3|
Maison Vingt is an extremely well appointed Charentaise town house situated in a semi rural location on the edge of the village of Saint Fort Sur Gironde.
Accommodating up to 10 guests, Maison Vingt has 5 bedrooms - a king, a double and 3 twin rooms.
A large (10m x 5m) swimming pool is discretely located in the gardens and is wonderfully secluded. It is an in-ground pool, salt water treated and heated should the sun decide not to shine (rarely…) The pool is set into its own patio area and has recently been fenced to the latest child safety standards.
Both the patio and pool areas are facing south west and are real sun traps.
The garden extends beyond the pool to provide a recreational area where you can sit and enjoy the dappled shade of the trees, read a book or watch the children play.
Maison Vingt is ideal for large or extended families where cousins and grandparents can enjoy some quality time together.
There is plenty to do around and about, but this really is somewhere that you can return to, feel instantly at home and relax.
The kitchen is large and well appointed. There is a table for 10, large range cooker, dishwasher, washing machine as well as all the smaller appliances etc. necessary to make this a perfectly functioning "hub of the home". There is a large fireplace with a wood burning stove - not that you are likely to need it! Looking out onto the patio area, the huge windows give a bright and airy feel to the kitchen.
The sitting room, with its period features includes an impressive open fireplace.
Two large leather sofas and various other furnishings provide the family with a warm and homely retreat at the end of the day.
A large flat screen tv provides UK freesat channels and also has a dvd player. Numerous dvds are available. Internet access wifi is also included.
French windows open out onto the patio area.
Worthy of note is the fact that during the (sometimes intense) heat of the day, the house remains cool, so the sitting room provides a welcome retreat.
The bedrooms are all of a good size. There are 5 rooms in total, a king, a double and three twin rooms. All rooms lead out independently onto landings or corridors. There is an interlinking door between the king and one of the twins, so if you have young children you might find this a useful asset.
Once again all of the rooms are furnished in tasteful elegance.
The bedding is of the highest quality Egyptian cotton and the beds are equipped with mattress and pillow protectors.
Egyptian cotton hand and bath towelling is provided for each guest. (Please note poolside towelling is not supplied.)
Each room has its own wardrobe and chest of drawers.
There are two "salles de bain". these each contain toilet, wash hand basin and shower.
there is also a third toilet serving the rooms at the furthest end of the house.
Open fire, wood burner and electric radiators as required.
Tv dvd UK Freesat soundbar with Bluetooth connection.
A large selection of books.
There are various board games for all ages.
Outside games include Boules, Giant Pick up Sticks, Badminton etc.
Large garden, with mature shrubs including lavender and roses surrounded by beautiful mature trees.
Private patio. Pool area and further recreational area (shared with the owners).
The grounds extend to in excess of 1,000 square metres.
On-street parking off road parking available if required.
Suitable for all visitors, disabled are very welcome, but access is not good due to stairs and steps.
The owners (we) live adjacent to the house, so if there are any issues, we are on hand to ensure they are sorted with a minimum of disruption and as quickly as possible.

|Why this location?||The Gironde Estuary is a very beautiful and unspoilt part of the country. An hour north of Bordeaux, set in the heart of the western wine producing region of Charente Maritime, this area enjoys a climate reputed to be second only to the Med, yet tempered by the Atlantic.
We are located in a semi rural location on the edge of Saint Fort, which is well provided for including boulangerie, post office, Coop, newsagent/tabac, chemist and, among others, lawn mower repair shop (just in case you should need it).
The area hosts numerous bars and restaurants in some of the most stunning locations.
The estuary provides coastal walks teeming with bird and other wildlife, in a wonderfully tranquil setting.
A 20 minute drive to the north rewards you with miles of fabulous sandy beaches as you look out onto the Biscay Atlantic.
|Unique benefits of property||Maison Vingt is an impressive traditional Charentaise town house. Stone built over 200 years ago, it boasts a wealth of original features, yet has been renovated to a high standard to provide a comfortable and homely feel. The property is equipped for ten guests and has five good sized bedrooms including a king, a double and three twin bed rooms. The large fully equipped kitchen leads through to the impressive sitting room. Outside, a private patio area complete with table seating ten and a bbq provides a private and secluded area. This leads into the garden area, down to the pool and the large recreational area beyond. The complete security of the garden means you can relax confident that your children are happy, safe and sound.
The large (10 x 5 m), in-ground heated salt water pool set in a poolside patio area, and contained within child safety fencing.
Maison Vingt is ideal for large or extended families where cousins and grandparents can enjoy quality time together.
Port Maubert is a small port onto the estuary. Just 4 km from Maison Vingt, it is a charming location as a starting point for beautiful coastal walks - or, if you prefer make it the end point and enjoy coffee or a meal at the L'Ecluse hotel. You can sit outside and soak up the atmosphere, watching the boats come and go. There is the Ecole de Voille (sailing school) where such activities as small dinghy, kayak, day sailing or estuary cruising are available. There is also a fish shop where you can buy the catch of the day.
A little further along the estuary is situated the slightly larger town of Mortagne. The town is set on two levels on the hill side. Above is the main town with all the usual amenities. Below, leading down to the estuary is the charming ancient village nestled against the foot of the cliff. Below that again is the harbour - larger than Port Maubert, with several places to eat or buy take away. It also hosts an antiques fair - an indoor brocante which has a myriad of curiosities that you never knew you needed.
Just to the south of Mortagne, carved into the limestone cliffs are a series of troglodytes caves. Well worth a visit.
A few kilometres to the north of Mortagne, is the fascinating settlement of Talmont. Standing on a peninsula jutting out into the estuary, this partially fortified village has a fascinating church built originally as a defensive structure but which has settled to a more ecclesiastical nature over the centuries as the threat of invasion has subsided….
Talmont is a small and quaint village with narrow streets. It is very popular as a visitor attraction and has a number of places to eat and drink as well as many boutique shops selling gifts, clothing and souvenirs.
Beautiful sandy beaches within 20 minutes at Meschers, Royan and Palmyre.
Beautiful house to stay in, very tastefully styled without sacrificing comfort or character of the building. Having the swimming pool and area to use the sun loungers was also fantastic. While it was heated insofar as not very cold to swim in, it also provided very welcome opportunities to cool off when the sun became very hot. There is a lovely patio area outside the back door with a solid long wooden table which could easily seat up to 10 people, wonderful to eat breakfast and meals throughout the day. Was so enjoyable to eat out in the patio area that we didnt feel all the pressed to eat out. The kitchen is very well equipped (8 ring cooker very useful if the house if fully occupied), laundry detergent and dishwasher tablets provided. Access to UK TV services, however wifi was patchy and while my phone network didnt work that well (UK vodafone) my sisters did (Carphone warehouse). The owners (Briitsh) live next door are friendly, helpful but also discreet. They gave good local info, in addition to 2 files of info re things / activities to do, go and see locally and further afield. We had pleasant walks around the town as well as outside of it. Local gardens and cognac distillery (La Boulon) was a highlight for us, gardens were beautiful. Can get provisions in the local coop, or travel a few miles to the local intermarche (we hired a car at Bordeaux airpor, about an hour away). Overall greatly enjoyed, and would be very happy to return next year!
