We both enjoy cycling. We would be really happy to share our local knowledge, so you can enjoy these or other activities in the area.

|Why this location?||We fell in love with the area around Saint Jean D'Angely and decided that would be the centre of our house search. After viewing La Petite Ferme Gites & walking around the delightful village of Dampierre sur Boutonne, our minds were set.
Dampierre is a lovely village, with a village shop that is open 7 days a week and sells fresh bread, pastries, freshly baked pizza and all the day to day necessities you may need.
The village cafe/bar, "Garage a Papi", is a quirky, chilled out place where you can sit and enjoy views of the sun setting behind the Chateau De Dampierre. The bar has indoor seating, but also has outdoor seating in it's large orchard, next to the river. Often musicians play on Sunday afternoons.
The shop, bar and Chateau are all less then 400m from the gites. We are rural but not isolated
We love the beautiful countryside, the tranquillity, the sunshine, the sunflowers, the birds singing in the evening, the cheese and wine and everything about life in rural France

The Marais Poitevin is alsoknown as as The Green Venice. It is a large area north of Niort which is a matrix of waterways through natural countryside. The Marais Poitevin is the largest of the three areas of Marais (marshlands) in the Vendée. During the early medieval period Benedictine monks began draining the Marais by building a series of canals and waterways. The Dutch continued the drainage work and built the Drogues (dykes) to keep the sea at bay. Coulon is a pretty little village to explore from and is 22 miles away. The area is great for hiring boats & bikes to explore, or just walking around.
