This beautifully renovated 18th century Charentaise stone farmhouse is in a beautiful setting on the edge of a hamlet and surrounded by unspoilt countryside. It has been sensitively restored and contains all the modern comforts one would find in their own home.

Your private pool is just 5 metres from your back door with an outside patio dining .

Three of the 6 bedrooms, 3 of which are on the ground floor and all are en suite.

There is plenty of space for dining on the patio with ample seating and a gas barbecue.The patio offers partial shade and parasols are also provided

The more astute may have noticed that the total number of beds add up to 19 people. However my capacity is limited to 15 through insurance and safety regulations. On the plus side it does give you a lot of flexibility when it comes to working out who sleeps where. All of the beds are made prepared for your arrival.

Heating

All bedrooms are supplied with a freestanding fan.

For winter rentals wood burners are located in the kitchen, lounge and the 6th bedroom. The wood supply is included in the rental price. Electric oil filled radiators provide heating in the other 5 bedrooms.

Garden and outside

The private swimming pool is 7.5 x 4.5 metres and 1.1 metres deep, with a decking surround and furnished with ample sunloungers and seating. The pool area is fenced to prevent unsupervised access. There is a dining area with parasols and a gas barbecue.

Visitor suitability

Chez Fauret is ideal for both adults and children. Chez Fauret is situated on sloping ground and there are a number of steps that link the rooms on the ground floor, and is therefore not suitable for wheelchair access and may be hazardous to those that are frail or have limited mobility.

Information about any additional facilities

There is a large grassed area for you to use and is perfect for outdoor games and activities. Last year it served as a football pitch, a baseball diamond, a badminton court and a site for numerous boules competitions. The are enough boules sets to allow 12 people to play at a time.

For those that like walking there are several well marked routes for you to explore, and some cycle routes as well.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mr Malcolm Whittaker

My name is Malcolm Whittaker and I have lived in France since 2004. Chez Fauret is my second house renovation. I chose to live in this region because of the climate, the pace of life and because it is so beautiful and this area also has all the amenities within easy reach.<br/><br/>I live on-site in separate accommodation and will be here to meet you, show you around and be on hand with information on local activities and events. I try to be discreet, so if you don't need me, you won't see me.

Why this location? When I bought Chez Fauret in June 2010 it needed a complete renovation as the last inhabitants were German prisoners of war awaiting repatriation in 1945, passing the time by working in the surrounding fields. The house was a blank canvas that allowed me to create an apartment for myself and a spacious holiday home for guests that I would be happy to stay in.

It's location strikes the right balance between town and country with a 10 minute drive to a town with all the amenities.

The surrounding countryside has an abundance of wildlife, such as deer, hawks, kestrels and harriers. There is a buzzard nearby who has refined his hunting technique and now sits on a road sign waiting for his food to wander by and remains there, eyeing you intently as you drive by, just feet away.
Unique benefits of property Chez Fauret is ideal for anyone looking for a spacious holiday home and if you want to eat out and socialise but don't want to drive, my next door neighbour Gregoire runs a bar and restaurant in the evenings during late spring and summer and occasionally provides live entertainment by local musicians.

Your own exclusive swimming pool is just 5 metres from your back door, with an ample supply of loungers. The patio has a large dining area with tables, chairs and parasols. As a security measure the pool is fenced to prevent unsupervised access.

Where to go, what to do

Restaurants
Aside from Chez Gigi next door I can thoroughly recommend the Hook Bar at Boisredon (20 minutes) and the restaurant L'Aire de Loisirs de Leoville (5 minutes). Both offer superb food at reasonable prices.

There are day markets at Montendre on Thursdays and Fridays for Jonzac. Each offer night markets during the summer on Tuesdays and Wednesdays respectively.

The wonderful cities of Bordeaux, Cognac and Angouleme are within an hour's drive, and it's just over an hour to the fabulous sandy beaches in and around Royan. More locally Jonzac has its own water park and an outside lagoon with many small bars and retaurants. Montendre has its boating lakes and a 9 hole golf course, open to all, no prior booking required. It's a tight and challenging course dotted with trees ditches and ponds. I am a member there and usually play twice a week.

Wine tasting

Chez Fauret is in the middle of both the wine and Cognac producing regions. Look across the valley and see the vines grown for the production of Cognac and Pineau des Charentes. Wineries all around the property and local towns offer tastings of wine Pineau and Cognac and the town of Cognac is only 40 minutes away.

Walking and Cycle paths

There are dozens of well marked walking trails that criss cross this area and There is an excellent cycle trail that runs from Chevanceux (6 miles away) and follows the old railway route up to Barbezieux some 18 miles away.
