With 2 private fishing lakes at La Germondiere, set in mature gardens of 2.5 hectares, there is plenty of opportunity for a relaxing time fishing, or just enjoying the beautiful surroundings. Our lakes are stocked with carp, tench, bream, roach, pike, zander.
Self-catering accommodation in the Gatine countryside, yet only 1.5 miles from the town.
Despite its peaceful, rural ambience, Secondigny has all the amenities you may require without having to stray too far. A supermarket, butcher, bakers, newsagent, chemist, and hairdresser can all be found in Secondigny, and of course 2 or 3 bars and restaurants.

We are pet-friendly too.... so you don't have to leave your faithful friend behind. We are mostly a child-free environment too, children by exception.

The gîte has no steps or stairs, everything is on one level, with wide doorways and grab bars in the toilet and shower. We also provide an adjustable height shower chair, with arms.

Large lounge/kitchen/diner with leather sofa, plus sofa-bed, double bedroom, twin bedroom, walk in shower room and separate W.C.

Electric radiators in most rooms, wood-burner for those cooler evenings, a table top electric fan for the hot summers, UK TV and free wifi are also provided.

The gîte has a fenced large garden and patio area, overlooking the smaller lake, for watching the sun set, perhaps enjoying a glass of French wine. We provide two sets of patio furniture, one in sun and one in shade, a parasol, sunbeds and a large BBQ.

We also supply a picnic blanket, we hope you will use it by our lakes. What can be better than going for a picnic without having to get in the car?

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Julie Tee

Year property purchased 2012
Why this location? Not only do we have wonderful lakes, but there are many other places to fish.
We love life in rural France... we love it that the shops close at lunch times, that our French neighbours value quality time with their families.
We are close enough to busier places that we can dip in if we want to.
We can even take a trip to the coast.
We have good, well-serviced airports nearby.
Unique benefits of property The grounds and lakes are truly magical. So peaceful, so beautiful, so much wildlife and of course great fishing.
We provide all the equipment you need to just sit and picnic by the lakes, you don't even have to like fishing... just enjoy the surroundings. Peace, quiet, tranquility - in an abundance.
Our gites are simple, but offer you everything you need.
Not miles from shops, so you don't feel 'stuck' in the country... and close to many of the big tourist attractions.

The Owner Recommends

Le Puy de Fou

Much more than a traditional theme park, the Puy du Fou has been voted the best theme park in the world! The Puy du Fou offers an experience which stands out from other theme parks by offering you spectacular performances that propel you through the centuries.

A famous historical theme park, the Puy du Fou Park is a whirlwind of extraordinary shows and a great experience for ages 8 to 80! Visitors embark on journeys through time to enjoy lavish historical enactements in this 50 acre park with 25 restaurants !

One day just may not be enough. Each and every one of our customers who have been here highly recommend it.

Marais Poitevin

A marsh area, made up of natural water channels and man-made canals, which stretches for miles. The area is often referred to as the Venise Verte (Green Venice).

The largest area of marshland on Frances Atlantic coastline and the second largest anywhere in the Country is full of wildlife.

You can explore the canals and waterways by traditional flat-bottomed boats which can be hired from various areas in the Marais Potevin. Head to any of the embarcaderes (piers/wharfs) to hire a boat for an hour or two, or half or whole day and with or without a guide.

Or you can explore on foot or by bike (plenty of bike hire places). Some of Frances most beautiful villages are in the Marais Poitevin area - head to Coulon or Arcais to see the traditional architecture of the area, along the edge of the waterways.

The top attraction in the Poitou-Charentes and the second in France – a holiday in the Poitou-Charentes isn’t complete without a day out at Futuroscope. A 60-hectare park, with landscaped gardens and fountains and futuristic-looking pavilions which house thrilling rides and jaw-dropping 3D films. The only amusement park of its kind in Europe!
(We can usually provide you with discount vouchers for entry into Futuroscope).

La Rochelle

With its four ports, La Rochelle is one of the most important French harbour towns, particularly for tourism. It has a unique atmosphere, with its historic port (Le Vieux Port), a quayside bustling with boats of all sizes, and a seafront packed with cafes, bars and restaurants.

Pedestrianised streets are surrounded with 17th and 18th century buildings housing boutique shops selling everything from fashion to food.

The town has a daily market which takes over the streets around Place du Marché and a stunning seafood market at Rue Marche.

You can cycle around La Rochelle, using the yellow bikes that are free. You can collect your bike at Place Verdun between 9am-6pm. You will need to take identification. The first two hours are free, then it is 1 Euro per hour.

La Rochelle also has one of Europes best aquariums with more than 10,000 sea creatures on display - an evening visit in July and August is a great end to a full day in La Rochelle, as the aquarium remains open until 11pm.

And there are Museums galore - covering maritime, national history, perfume bottles, antique moving figurines, model transport vehicles and porcelain and paintings you are bound to find something of interest to you.

GOLF - Bressuire golf club is just 25 minutes away. There are three further golf clubs within an hour drive; Mazires-en-Gatine, Niort and Les Forges.
HORSE RIDING - Less than 20 minutes drive away, Les Ecuries du Saumort offers horse riding lessons, day courses, picnic rides and various other equestrian activities.
FISHING - If you want more fishing than is on offer at La Germondiere, you are spoilt for choice in this region. With so many rivers to choose from, most can be fished all year round (be aware of the closed seasons for certain fish, and ensure you obtain a carte de peche). For lake fishing, Pescalis at Moncoutant was created in 2000 as the first international nature and fishing centre in Europe and now has 100 hectares of lakes. Closer to Secondigny are Etang du Mothes and Etang du Olivette.
SWIMMING - Parthenays Gatineo aquatic centre has 4 pools tailored to different activities and a giant toboggan, something for everyone. Secondigny's municipal campsite has an outdoor swimming pool which is available to the public during the summer months (afternoons only, excludes Monday).
CANOEING / KAYAKING / WIND-SURFING - are pursuits on offer at Parthenays Base de Loisirs.

Animal Parks

The Poitou-Charentes is packed full of animal parks and zoos, offering great days out for all the family.

Zoodyssee - a 25 hectare animal park and an ideal place for a forest walk.

Zoo de la Palmyre - one of the best zoos in Europe set in 14 hectares in a pine forest. More than 1600 types of animal from all 5 continents.

Les Oiseaux du Marais Potevin - more than 70 species of birds in the beautiful Green Venice.

Planete des Crocodiles - boasting more than 200 crocodiles.

Le Vallee des Singes - Mountain gorillas and 30 species of ape and monkey.

Mouton Village - 23 breeds of sheep from around the world.

Churches & Heritage

Secondignys own church of St Eulali dates back to the 11th century and was listed as a Historic Monument in 1929. Nearby villages of Allonne, Azay sur Thouet, Pougne Herisson, and St Aubin le Cloud each have their own churches, mills, chapels and Granite boulders with an interesting history to tell.
