What can I say - our alpacas provide the entertainment. We are in a very rural location and you have access to wander the walkways around our alpaca enclosure, listening to birdsong, ducks and the occasional passing tractor, but that's it.
There is a private lawn to the side of the gite and you can sit, sunbathe and dine al fresco on the back lawn of the farm. You might see us occasionally passing by out back to go and do some work, but this generally enhances the holiday according to feedback....
There is parking for one or two cars directly outside the gite, and plenty of additional parking to the side of the farmhouse.
The gite is suitable for families, groups of friends, couples and singles, we welcome all. Previous guests have commented on the tranquility of the location and the ease of access to local attractions.
We provide a private guided tour of our farm and alpacas so that you get to know the layout, where you can wander, and how to behave around our animals. You are then at liberty to stroll around the pastures whenever you want to get the alpaca chill factor*.
*Please note that children must be accompanied by an adult for their safety on the farm.

|Why this location?||The tranquility of this rural area reminded us of how things used to be when we were growing up! Coming from London, we wanted to move to an environment where traditional values still counted. During our house-hunt, of course, we had complicating factors - seaching for a farm on its own private land, not more than a 5 min drive to local amenities (bar/restaurant/bank/supermarket/baker/doctor/etc). We are still delighted with the area, the social life and the friendships that we have developed. The alpacas are the cherries on the cake! We have one of the best climates for summer living - eating outside in March and September is not unheard of... During summer months, there are generally a couple of events going on fairly locally each week-end. We are on the southern edge of the Loire valley (chateaux, vineyards), coast 1.5hrs, France's best theme park Puy du Fou 40mins, Futuroscope 40mins, an easy drive to a few airports, great cycling/walking area...it ticked all our boxes!|
|Unique benefits of property||Obviously, the alpacas provide a unique benefit - you get a private guided tour of the farm to meet the alpacas at a time/date convenient to you. And after that, you are at liberty to wander around the walkways and commune with our alpacas when you wish. As to the gite, there is a huge and private back lawn - great for sunbathing, games with the kids, barbecues, soaking up nature - which backs on to our pond with fish, waterfowl, ducks, loads of singing frogs (summer). The kitchen is fully equipped and backs onto the lawn for ease of outdoor living from May to September, whilst the lounge/diner provides comfy seating for 6 (8 possible, but short stays only) - lovely and cool when you need a break from the sun.|
Visit a huge variety of chateaux - from the Chateau de Mesmin to the Chateau de Brissac to the Chateau Orion. Enjoy a spot of wine-tasting along the way at the many vineyards.
Visit the Japanese Gardens for a tranquil walk among the azaleas and landscaped grounds.
There is an international karting circuit in the same commune - they rent out karts and hold courses at various times.
Rock climbing, walking, canoeing, mountain and trail biking, horse riding and Karting. For the more tranquil you can visit parks, chateaux, vineyards, swim and simply walk.
Only 40 minutes' away - perfect for a day-trip to what has been voted the world's best park. The Puy du Fou is a unique theme park in the Vendée region of France. It offers an experience that stands out from other leisure parks and theme parks, including spectacular shows.
These are also based at Doue La Fontaine, making it a great whole day out for the family. There are also some lovely restaurants around, some based in caves with menus typical of the region. Search on Tripadvisor to see.
Guided tours are available of the chateau in this lovely town. You'll enjoy the gardens of the chateau and the walk on the ramparts with stunning views over the River Thouet. You can also buy wine from the chateau's private estate. There is a wide variety of restaurants in the town and kayaking is available on the river.
The weekly market at Thouars (19km) offers everything for your meal plus laying chickens, clothing, etc. It is a typical French market, full of life, every Tuesday and Friday - Friday is recommended.
The Zoo at Doue La Fontaine is wonderful - based on what was a quarry, the zoo is in a lovely setting and wonderful for kids.
