Our attractive , comfortable, well renovated 15th century stone built cottage with large enclosed south facing gardenis ideal for a holiday or for house hunters and, perhaps those who wish to experience life in France and wish to stay for a few months. Reasonably priced for holidays with discounts for longer lets.

The cottage is located on the edge of a quiet hamlet - you can walk to the bakery and village shop in Cherveux - about 10 minutes, however you do need a car as the supermarkets are in Champdeniers 8kms, or St Maixent L'Ecole 14 kms, or Niort 15kms 
Ideal for couples, families, dogs accepted - there are some super walks in the area!



Kitchen and dining

Separate fitted kitchen with oven and hob, fridge freezer, microwave and washing machine. All crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils supplied.
With access to the garden for bbq's and dining outside.

There is a dining area in the living room - table and 6 chairs ( high chair available if required)

Front entrance opens to a lobby and glass door into the delightful living room with its tiled floor, stone walls and old beams.

There is another double bedroom on the ground floor - situated next to the bathroom and near the kitchen so ideal for the less able guests.

Linen supplied, beds made for your arrival and linen changed weekly.


On the ground floor there is a bathroom comprising bath with shower over, basin and wc.

On the first floor there is a has shower room with shower cubicle, wc, vanity unit and basin, and heated towel rail.
2 immersion heaters provide plenty of hot-water.


Electric radiators.
Wall mounted heat exchanger ( with air con option) in the living room.
There is a woodburner but this is not available from May to October.

Ideal for house hunters or those with time on their hands wanting to experience living in France or just exploring Poitou Charentes.
Often rented by ' grandparents' for a month during which time family join them for a few days. No extra rental charges made as we ask that you pay the additional electricity and water.
Accommodation is ideally configured for two couples - double bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor and on the first floor.
Please note it may not be suitable for young children due to spiral stairs which are open tread.

Suitable for the less able if using facilities on the groundfloor - downstairs double bedroom and bathroom.

Why this location? Quiet location ideal for a relaxed holiday - lots of walks and cycle routes through surrounding countryside, we have mapped these for you. You will need a car for supermarket trips, restaurants and bars but you can walk to the local village of Cherveux for the bakery and village shop. Located in easy reach of lots of tourist attractions, and for car rally fanatics there is an annual car rally which passes the property, 3rd week-end in August.
Visit Marais Poitevin for boat trips.
Futuroscope, La Rochelle, Vallee des Singes (monkey world) and Cognac are an hour away.

Cognac Historic town built on the banks of the Charente River Just under an hours drive from here, take the Hennessey or Martel Tour Or boat trip on the river. Each year, first week in July there is a Blues Festival throughout the town and in the park. Enjoy free music in the streets and bars and in the park in the day – however you must buy tickets for the acts in the park in the evening. Visit one ( or more) of the many vineyards offering Pineau and wines on the way!

La Rochelle and Il De Re

La Rochelle Allow a full day to visit Le Vieux Port (the old Port), The Aquarium, walk around the town centre and eat at one of the numerous restaurants. Perhaps take a boat trip! We recommend that you park at Port des Minimes and take the water bus into the Old Port. The beaches at the Old Port and in Port des Minimes Il de Re Island is 30km long by 5km wide Approach by a bridge (toll payable) from La Rochelle Visit the island capital of St Martin or drive to the top of the island and walk up the lighthouse.

Walk through the town centre – street with ornamental serpents, to the market place Les Halles, Le Donjon and the river.

Parthenay is an ancient fortified town about 20 kms north, on the D743. - Walk around the old quarter and through the lanes of the shopping centre. Plenty of Bars and a good variety of restaurants, many of which have a ‘Set Menu’ for around €12 per person at lunchtime (Monday – Friday) Parking is easy – two large car parks on either side of the centre There is a large supermarket HyperU in the centre. Each year in July Parthenay hosts FLIP - Festival Ludique International de Parthenay (International Festival of toys and games) It’s free and in 2015, had some 3000 exhibits to enjoy and is in the squares and streets of the town centre. There’s something for every one of all ages to play, have a go, with or without instruction. The games, large and small, are set up for you to participate. New and innovative games along with some old favourites, volley ball and football on sand pitches as well as a small funfair with a variety of bouncy castles. We stayed at the end of May 2017 with my partner's adult daughter and my little dog. Sally and Jim could not have been more hospitable, and the Gite was perfect for us. Having a secure garden for my mad dog was great, and having the lovely countryside to walk in with said dog perfect. It was a great base to get about from and a joy to get back to.

We would definitely go back as it's a great base for house hunting. Thank you Sally and Jim, hope to see you again.
