This is a picturesque village on the river Charente, with one of the finest 15th century chateaux in the Charente region. Wander around the town to see Saint-Medard the 12th century church or the Moulin de Verteuil which is a newly renovated working mill with fresh flour for sale, it also serves tea, coffee and light meals or you could stop to eat in one of the fine restaurants to be found in the town.
We had a lovely relaxing holiday at Les Rosieres. There is plenty of outdoor seating with shaded and unshaded areas. This is what made Les Rosieres stand out from other holiday homes we have stayed in. The outdoor table is in shade in the morning and in shade by 7pm which meant we could eat outside for all our meals (weather permitting). We had good weather for most of our two week stay. There are currently 3 bedrooms with double beds and two bedrooms with two single beds. There is a useful utility room. The pool was 26 degrees during our stay which was cool to get into at first but but a fabulous relief from the hot weather. My daughters went in whatever the weather and had lots of fun jumping into the deeper water. The wifi was excellent inside the house which was ideal for my teenage daughters and useful for communication as the phone signal was poor. The supermarket was a 10 minute drive away and we found the shop and bar near the house very useful for tasty baguette so it wasn't necessary to shop every day. The area is very peaceful.
Rustic quiet setting. The Pool was just perfect and enjoyed by the whole family. The broadband speed was out of this world and a real hit with the kids. A fantastic week and thoroughly enjoyed. We had a minor issue with the shower and Frank was on site in a flash to deal. Jeremy (the owner) was really helpful throughout and communication was 5 stars. We would highly recommend Les Rosierers if you're looking for a quiet traditional place but with plenty to do only a short drive away - should you feel the need to leave the pool!
A Lovely house in a fabulous rural location. We wanted a peaceful place to relax and it certainly gave us that. The house is comfortable and the pool is wonderful. We were especially impressed by the bug screens on the windows which were a very much appreciated feature. Being in the countryside there are often more flies than usual, but here it was not a problem at all. The local manager was very helpful and not overly intrusive and the key arrangements were very easy. There are good shops etc within a 10 minute drive, and a wide variety of things to see within an hour drive. The village is quite small, but we often took a stroll in the evening and had a chat with the locals who were very friendly. There are currently no shops in the village. We visited Lezay, Melle and Sauze-Vaussais markets and visited towns further afield including Civray, Jarnac and La Rochelle, as well as the Vallee des Singes wildlife park.We loved looking at the night sky which is extensive as there is hardly any light pollution. If you want peaceful....this is it!!
