La Roche is our "upside-down" gite - making it beautifully cool during hot summer nights. It has a feature rock in the hall and shower room, is bright and airy and comfortably sleeps 4+ cots. It is the end one of our 3 gites.
Located in a peaceful, sheltered valley in the little hameau of Les Jincheres, our 3 gites, all have excellent views over the woods and countryside and are south facing.
Poitou Charentes (now Nouvelle-Aquitaine) is the second sunniest region in France, with between 2000 and 2600 hours of sunshine each year. In spring we enjoy the freshness of the countryside and the beautiful chorus of birdsong. Summer can be hot - but we have plenty of shade and our lovely pool to cool down in. The autumn is usually very warm, bright and dry with small butterflies still feeding on the wild thyme in late October. All year round, you will enjoy the truly peaceful surroundings and our rich wildlife. Out-of-season short breaks are available. Please contact us directly for information.

|Why this location?||As soon as you get out of your car you can feel the peace and tranquility of this location. Our beautiful valley is edged with woods and a small stream and there is always birdsong. Yet, we are only 5km from the small town of l'Absie which has all amenities. Bars, restaurants, supermarket (with fuel station), boulangerie, newsagent, post office etc.
The climate is warmer south of the Loire and the architecture is welcoming and warm.
|Unique benefits of property||You have a large amount of safe space to play and relax including the 9m x 4.6m shared pool with sun-trap terrace, a fully-equipped games field (football, badminton, table tennis), croquet lawn, boules court, potager, wildflower maze and our entertaining cheese-loving chickens all set in our wonderful location. There are lovely walks right on our doorstep.
There are so many easily accessible popular tourist attractions and places to explore within a short distance - Puy du Fou, Futuroscope, La Rochelle, Marais Poitevin, beaches (e.g. La Tranche), historic towns ( e.g. Parthenay), beautiful villages (Vouvant etc), vibrant cities (e.g.Niort), local lakes for swimming and other water-based activities, fishing, karting, adventure parks, beauty spots..
We have around a dozen lovely restaurants within a 15km area, and some traditional local markets where you can try out delcious local cheese, butters, charcuterie and freshly harvested fruit and vegetables, local wines and aperitifs!
The second most visited theme park in France. Spectacular shows involving a 'cast of thousands' and many surprising and special effects. As much loved by adults as children. Overall, very good value. If you book 4 days in advance (and we can help with that) you even get a small discount!
A fascinating area of meadows and marshlands, criss-crossed by canals and rivers where you can hire a boat (self-drive or 'skippered'), or a bicycle and spend the day meandering through the waterways. Coulon is an excellent starting point, and from here you can also take a ride on the Pibalou miniature train. Arcais has a beautiful setting.
At the seaward edge of the Marais, there are opportunities to go birdwatching.
With its restaurant lined port overlooked by those magnificent towers, La Rochelle is always a favourite with our guests. Plenty of shops, old arcaded streets, museums and the famous aquarium. There is park and ride available in season which we would highly recommend.
A vibrant city with many interesting independent shops, a lovely market hall with lively weekly markets and fascinating historical buildings. The Donjon ( Keep) dating from the 12th Century affords lovely views across the town and the river Sevre-Niortaise.Le Pilori is a building with an interesting mix of architectural styles. Nearby is the renowned Zoodysee with nearly 600 animals on a 62 acre site living in 'almost' natural habitats. The Chareau du Coudray-Salbart is well worth a visit.
Our nearest seaside beaches are La Tranche- sur-Mer and Les Sables-d'Olonne. At La Tranche there is 8kms of sandy beach partially backed by pine woods and with picturesqie white painted houses and narrow streets. Sables d'Olonne is a larger resort with a promenade backed fine sandy beach. The port, one of the majot ones in France, is the starting point for the famous 'Vendee Globe' round the world yacht race. The old town with its narrow streets lies between the port and the beach - look out for the Rue de l'Enfer which is a mere 40cms wide at its narrowest point ( so best viewed prior to that seafood platter!)
For those seeking a little adrenalin rush, the Parc Aventure offers tree top fun for those aged 2 to 102 ! Zip wires, suspended nets and so much family fun. Across the road is Boca Speed Karting with a 880m circuit.
Whilst there are guided tours in season, it is delightful to discover yourselves the old medieval Parthenay from the Citadel, perched on a promontory above the river Thouet, down through streets, with half-timbered houses with projecting upper storeys, to the 13th century bridge and gatehouse.
Pescalis has more than 250 acres of lakes with carp up to 25 kilos! There is an aquarium, gift shop and restaurant. You can hire rods and buy day fishing passes or just wander around the beautiful lakes.
