You can find our website and facebook page by searching for "Le Logis de La Touche" in the Deux-Sevres area of France (between La Rochelle and Niort) to view more information, further images and some of the history of this newly restored home.

Property history:
Le Logis de La Touche is the former Master's home of the local area which has been sympathetically restored with huge oak beams, grand wooden staircase, etc. but now with the addition of modern comforts such as uncapped Wi-Fi, TVs (UK freeview + Wife enabled for guests own Netflix, etc.).

The property has been owned by our family for 30 + years now and in that time we have worked hard to restore it to its position as the grand house (former Masters House) of the area.

Location:
Le Logis de La Touche is a large home situated in a beautiful & quiet rural area within THE MARAIS POITEVIN Regional Park.

You can also find us easily on Google Maps.

What we love about our holiday home:
WE LOVE BEING IN TOUCH WITH NATURE!! You can walk directly into The Marais Poitevin Regional Park from the property and the large rear garden faces directly west offering maximum long sunny days with the most amazing sunsets. It is such a peaceful location and well suited for rest, relaxation and lots of walking/playing for the children (and adults!) in your group.

Heated Swimming pool:
The HEATED SWIMMING POOL is available during the warmer months of May through to September.

The pool is located in a very sunny position in the rear garden benefitting from direct sunshine throughout the whole day.

The pool water is heated by an electric water heater and bubble/solar cover.

For pool security/safety, the pool (which is 120cm above ground level) has a detachable ladder and battery operated alarm. Guests are kindly requested to ensure adult supervision is present during pool use and to please make use of these security measures. Please note the outdoor dining seated area (which is naturally shaded by the trees) is located within close proximity of the pool and is a great spot to supervise pool users.

Further background and useful information:
The property is our fully equipped holiday home and we offer it to our guests in the exact same fully equipped manner as when we stay there because we like our guests to experience the same joy of holidaying/staying here as we do!

During your stay, please do treat our home as if it was your own home.

Whilst cleaning is included in the booking price, we do ask guests to please leave the property clean and tidy when departing.

Free blackberries (in season):
Due to its rural setting you are literally able to walk directly out into The Marais Poitevin where you can pick your own blackberries and other fruits during season.

A great place to be active:
The surrounding area is great for cycling (all fairly flat), peaceful walks & jogging and yet it is also centrally located for most of this area's desirable places to visit including La Rochelle, Île de Ré, Coulon, Marais Poitevin National Park, Niort, etc.

Off the beaten track yet near to civilisation:
The property is very conveniently located a few miles from the small market town of "Mauze Sur Le Mignon" which offers two supermarkets ("Intermarche" and "Lidl") along with a pharmacy, 24/7 petrol station, Doctors, bars, restaurants, weekly markets, boutique stores, hairdressers, Church, sports centre with indoor pool .....All you could possibly need during your stay.

Weather:
This area of France has its own unique micro-climate and is the 2nd sunniest area behind the very busy/expensive South of France region.

Shopping:
For those that like to shop there are the large/mega shopping parks such a Centre Commercial Beaulieu (near La Rochelle - 30minutes by car) and Espace Mendes (near Niort - 20minutes by car).

Beautiful location near to major tourist destinations:
Le Logis de La Touche is situated on the southern edge of the Marais Poitevin regional park also known as Green Venice/Venice Verte which is one of France's most beautiful national parks set on 95,000 hectares spread over 3 departments – the Vendée, Deux-Sevres and Charente-Maritime. This area is listed as the second largest wetland in France, after the Camargue and there are plenty of places to hire a boat (self-paddle and also paddled by a guide) as well as many wonderful local markets, shops, bicycle hire and restaurants.

The stunning coastal town of La Rochelle is a 30 minute car drive away heading west which leads to the magical Île de Ré. In the opposite direction is the picturesque town of Niort which is only a 20 minute car drive away heading east. Both towns offer shopping malls, fine dining, historical and interesting places to visit.

The pristine waterways of Coulon in the Marais Poitevin are only a 20 minute drive away in a northerly direction.

The uncapped Wi-Fi is the best available in the area and is provided by Orange. It is distributed throughout the house and garden by Wi-Fi extenders - it usually reaches the outdoor dining area under the trees and sometimes as much as 200 metres behind the house (which always surprises us!). However, whilst the Wi-Fi provided is offered with uncapped usage we do ask guests to try to avoid excessive or illegal use. Please note the Wi-Fi is generally very reliable/stable but the internet speed is generally slower than we would like however this is the best available within this area of France due to its rural location. We are located near to an LTE mast with 4G coverage so, for those guests needing faster connectivity, please make arrangements to access this nearby LTE mast via your own devices.

Garden and outside

The large rear level lawn directly adjoins open farmland with no fences and faces directly west meaning the property bathes in every last minute of sunshine and until 10.30pm mid summer.

As the sun sets there are the most amazing sunsets too and during our annual visits to holiday we always get to see meteor showers/shooting stars in the night sky.

It is so quiet and peaceful yet you have a sense of security knowing that there are 5 other neighbours who live in this small hamlet.

You can walk directly into The Marais Poitevin Regional Park from the property.

Free blackberries (in season) - due to its rural setting you are literally able to walk directly out into The Marais Poitevin where you can pick your own blackberries and other fruits during season.

It is such a peaceful location and well suited for rest, relaxation and lots of walking/playing for the children (and adults!) in your group.

Parking and garages

There is ample parking directly in front of the property for 5 - 10 cars.

Visitor suitability

It is in a very convenient location to all the major tourist destinations of the area such as La Rochelle, Ile de Rey, Marais Poitevin National Park, etc. and only 3kms from the local market town with 2 supermarkets.

The property is long and everything naturally opens up to the large rear level lawned garden which joins open farmland.

As it faces directly west the property bathes in every last minute of sunshine and until 10.30pm mid summer.

Because of the above kids, parents & grandparents who stay are always active outside on the lawn, using the pool and wandering around the lanes and the adjoining fields (blackberry picking is always a favourite in July/August/September!).

La Rochelle

Aquarium La Rochelle: La Rochelle's state-of-the-art, family-friendly aquarium is home to 12,000 marine animals and 600 different species.

Tour de la Lanterne: Easily mistaken as an ornate church spire, the conical 15th-century Tour de la Lanterne is La Rochelle's beauty queen.

Musée Maritime: In a series of canopied hangars at the Bassin à Flot, the Maritime Museum evokes the history of La Rochelle port, from the days when Parisians would arrive by train in La Rochelle.

André sea food restaurant: Opened in the 1950s as a waterfront seafood cafe, André grew so popular it began buying adjacent shops. It is now an eye-catching maze of eight different interconnecting rooms, each with its own individual ambience.

À la Gerbe de Blé: Lunch local. Buy a dozen oysters from the oyster stand in front of the Marché Central, ask to have them shucked, then head around the corner to Chez Geff and Christine.

Réserve Naturelle Marais d'Yves: An easy 15km drive south of La Rochelle, this nature reserve runs a free nature centre where you can peer through telescopes to watch some of the 192-hectare reserve's 250 bird species amid the wetlands.

Le Soleil Brille pour Tout Le Monde: There's a distinctly bohemian air to The Sun Shines for Everyone, an organic restaurant cooking up highly original (often vegetarian-based) dishes.

Prao: Named after the multi-hull proa (prao in French) sailboat typical to the Pacific and Indian Oceans,

Tour St-Nicholas: The only tower to be decked out like a house, this 37m-high pentagonal stone tower has leaned slightly to one side ever since building was complete in 1376.

Tour de la Chaîne: To protect the harbour at night in times of war, an enormous chain was raised between the two 14th-century stone towers at the harbour entrance to La Rochelle, giving rise to the name Tour de la Chaîne (Chain Tower).

La Fleur de Sel: A favourite Sunday-lunch address with discerning locals, Delphine and Bruno's whitewashed bistro.
