La Vieille Maison is set within our 5 acre property. We are resident on site. It is located in the stunning sunflower region of the Poitou Charentes approximately five miles from both Sauze Vaussais and Chef Bouttone.
La Vieille Maison has 4 light and airy bedrooms, 2 shower rooms/wc's and can sleep up to 10 people. There is a large lounge with amble seating, flat screen tv and a selection of boardgames for your use. The spacious traditional dining-kitchen is equipped with cooker/oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, toaster, kettle, hot water heater and washing-machine.
There are 2 comfortable double bedrooms. A bunk room with 2 sets of sturdy bunk-beds, and a twin room. Cots and highchairs are available on request. We also provide an iron, ironing board and hair dryer.
The gite benefits from a pretty private outside sitting area as well as the attractive common ground areas. The pool is shared with the owners but during your stay you have sole use of the 13 metre swimming pool which commands amazing views over pretty countryside and is a real suntrap. We have sunbeds and table and chairs for your use.
Based in a small rural hamlet we offer plenty of space and a perfect place to relax away from the hustle bustle of everyday life. However, unusual for such a small rural hamlet we have a small intimate wine bar/restaurant just a very short walking distance from us which has a reputation second to none.
We are just a short car ride to supermarkets and other shops. The best of both worlds.
There is a large spacious kitchen dining room equipped with cooker/oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and fridge-freezer, toaster, kettle and hot water heater for quick cups of boiling water, cafeteria and everything you need to prepare and enjoy everything from breakfast to dinner.
The large table and chairs make sure everyone is seated comfortably inside with the option of eating al fresco if preferred. (We have 2 highchairs available).
There is a beautiful, traditional French dresser which houses ample crockery and glasses.
Should you prefer alfresco dining there is a BBQ and dining table and chairs outside.
La Vieille Maison 4 bedroom gite has a large comfortable living room which easily seats all guests.
Housed in the living room are board games, TV and a selection of DVDs.
There are four light bright comfortable bedrooms. Two doubles with double beds. Both bedrooms are equipped with mirrors and somewhere for you to be able to sit when doing your hair etc and of course somewhere to put your clothes.
There is an attractive twin room with two single beds and the fourth has 2 sets of sturdy bunk beds. Both have plenty of space for clothes and cots can be provided upon request (we do not provide cot sheets).
There is an upstairs bathroom and another shower room downstairs. Both have shower cubicles with deep enough bottoms to bath a baby/toddler.
During the summer months we would not envisage that heating is required but we have electric heaters as well as a woodburner.
Heating is included in the summer months but during April and October heating is charged locally.
UK Freeview television and boardgames. We have some outdoor games including Boules.
a slide and playhouse are provided for younger children
Our on-site sheep can also provide huge entertainment.
Offsite there is horse riding available within walking distance or a five minute car ride
There is plenty of pretty countryside to ride your bike. Bring your own or we can arrange bike hire for you.
For the fishing enthusiast there are fishing facilities locally.
We can also arrange for baking classes and I can personally vote for "Mille-feuille" which was great fun and from which you get to bring home the product of your labour.
Local markets several days of the week
La Vieille Maison has its own garden area with table, chairs and a rotary line to hang your washing if you so desire. The attractive garden/outside area has ample space to find a quiet corner or for the children to kick a ball around. The swimming pool which commands amazing views is for your sole use.
You can choose to sit in the sun or take shade under the gazebo. The pool is 2 metres at the deep end and has interior steps at the one metre shallow end. Tables, chairs and sunloungers are provided for your comfort and enjoyment.
Free on-site parking.
La Vieille Maison is a beautifully spacious property which is ideal for one family but would equally lend itself to two families holidaying together.
There is a childgate at the top of the stairs.
As all the bedrooms are upstairs it would not regrettably be suitable for wheelchair users.
We are a totally non-smoking facility.
We relocated to this glorious part of France last year to start our new life in the summer sun and are offering a fabulous four bedroom gite for holiday rental.

|Unique benefits of property||We are based in a tiny hamlet right in the middle of sunflower country. We are very rural and so if you are looking for a real getaway this is the place to come. However, quite unique to a hamlet this size there is a small and unobtrusive wine bar/restaurant virtually next door. A short car ride will take you to a selection of supermarkets and other shops and restaurants. We are in a prime location for cycling and walking with riding stables just a short distance away.
On-site we have a large swimming pool with amazing views.
is on a Tuesday and is the biggest and most varied market in the area.
The Javarzay castle was reconstructed in 1514 by François de Rochechouart, governor of Genoa. Its one-time owners include the La Rochefoucauld family, the count of Pontchartrain (a minister of Louis XIV), Guillaume de Lamoignon de Malesherbes (lawyer of Louis XVI). All that's left of what was once the most imposing castle in Deux-Sèvres is the building bringing together the two towers and the chapel. The left wing was destroyed long ago, and the right wing constructed at a later date. The walls were demolished between 1820 and 1824, and the sculptures disappeared. In 1862, the Javarzay castle was awarded the status of a historical monument, which now houses a headdress museum and a room dedicated to Jean-François Cail, one of the five principal 19th-century manufacturers. A Renaissance castle (16th century), it nonetheless conserves a feudal aspect. Inside, there is a collection of regional headdresses.
